Saving Money Challenge

debt payoff by the gossip darling

Hello darlings!! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday and weekend! I'm still on vacay and I'm not even sure what day of the week it is. Soooo I'm loving every single moment

In 2016, I'm determined to make some major changes in my life. I will be:

• A blogging machine and going full force with this little baby of mine. Blogging really makes me happy and is a hobby that I really enjoy and I want to make sure I do a lot more of it in the New Year. Since I started this new adventure late last summer, I haven't been able to spend as much time with it as I would want to. Well here's to changing that!

• My work/life balance will be switching. Instead of mostly focusing on work, my personal life now needs to be the priority. Bye bye super crazy late nights. My part time wedding gig is still something I'll be doing because I want to pay down debt but I won't be committing myself to as many weddings. (Sometimes I'm working 7 days a week for 6 months straight) I'll be working my full time job from 9am to 6pm and then spending most of my weekends with family, friends, a few weddings here and there and my little blog.

• Becoming debt free is a BIG one to me. I won't be completely debt free (thank you law school loans) but I do want to decrease my credit card bills by half. Trust me, I am NO expert and I will probably splurge a few times and then feel guilty about it but here's my plan...

  1. No more mid-week visits to Dry Bar. I love love love Dry Bar and my hair always comes out fab but...the $45 fee plus $10 tips isn't so friendly to the wallet. $55 plus tax for someone just to wash and blow dry my hair isn't so cool. It's time for me to stop being lazy and do my own hair on a Wednesday night! Just as an FYI...I wash my hair 2x per week which are Sundays and Wednesdays. I do my own hair on Sunday but Wednesday is a killer. Who wants to come home after a long day and go through the whole process of washing and straightening extremely curly hair. Well guess what? This girl is tired of being broke. Washing and styling my own hair from here on out!
  2. Bye bye gel manicures. I love you too but now I must save good bye. Yes. We are breaking up. Totally not cool spending $30 on a manicure every two weeks. I 100% know that I should be doing my own nails. I got a few gift cards from co-workers for Christmas for manicures so I'll be using my gift cards over the next few months and also doing my own nails in between. I love my long-lasting-hard-to-chip gel manicures but my bank account isn't loving the high price.
  3. No alcohol. This is a hard one for me because I love my glass of wine...especially on those long and stressful days but now we must part ways. $20 on a small bottle of wine isn't ok anymore considering I can drink water for free. I'm trying to convince myself that I body doesn't need the extra calories anyway...who needs wine anyway, right? (I may still need convincing)
  4. Cancel 2nd gym membership. Yes, I have two gym memberships. This is kinda common in New York City. I work out at Equinox during the week and a local gym by my apartment on the weekends. I'm sorry but I'm totally not giving up my Equinox membership (yes, the gym is that awesome) but I will give up my weekend membership. I can start walking outside. The weather is still crazy warm as well so it won't be punishment!
  5. DIY projects instead of shopping. This homegirl loves shopping. Well Christmas is over so I have no excuse. This blog can use some more attention from me and so can my apartment. DIY home decor projects never hurt anyone...
  6. Selling extra stuff around the house. I'm a total girly girl and I have so much stuff all over the place. Do I really need 10 watches? Or 30 pairs of shoes? Or clothes everywhere? No. I'm going to consign a bunch of stuff and start filling up those bags. Time to bring in some extra side money.
  7. Money spending challenge. I'm setting a strict budget for myself and will be paying cash only. Yup. Money in an envelope and when I run out of money, that's it! No swiping plastic cards. I'm going to set a realistic budget and stick to it.
  8. Canceling or Selling my wedding blog. I'm totally on the fence with this one and I continuously keep changing my mind. I need your advice on this one. I started my wedding blog back in 2012 and I spent soooo much time and energy on it. I mean I spent hours upon hours. But now I'm no longer into weddings and I'm just going through the motions of continuing to post new content on that blog. It's no longer my passion. It's a Wordpress blog and I have to pay for hosting and a bunch of other fees associated with that blog. It's about $600 per year. Do I continue to keep it running because of sentimental reasons? Or do I save my $60 per year and shut it down? Or do I look into selling it? Something I know nothing about. Help! I can really use some guidance on this one...
  9. Only cooking for myself. Me and my crock pot are about to become best friends. No more takeout for me. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I spend about $200 per week on takeout. Between breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, and snacks...it adds up. I'm goal is to bring this down to $0! I know it sounds crazy and drastic but in reality, I can make everything I need at home.
  10. No Starbucks runs. Goodbye vanilla soy lattes which run at about $5 a pop. Its been real but you're making me poor.
  11. Spending free time building my blog. I don't need to spend money on my downtime! Instead of window shopping and checking out the latest trends at the mall, I'm going to stay home, mind my business and work on my blog!
  12. Working wedding job. I've worked weddings as my side job for 5 years now. I really wish I could stop working on the weekends and just focus on my personal or blog life but for the time being, I'm still going to have to pick up a wedding here and there...
  13. Creating excel spreadsheet and getting real. Ugh my friend Matt told me to do this months ago and I really haven't done it yet. I'm using amazing apps like Mint but I really need to do this the old fashioned way. Matt did this when he was on a mission to get rid of all his debts. I need to write out every single expense I'm responsible for on an excel spreadsheet and figure out a realistic budget. What's holding me back? Fear! I'm straight up terrifed. I need to put on my big girl pants and figure it out. I'm more afraid of staying in this current position.
  14. DIY housecleaning products. I simply need to save money and I know I can save loads by doing some things on my own, like DIY a lot of stuff. The stuff includes making my own beauty and cleaning products. I'll save loads of money and I'll also know what I'm using to clean my apartment and my skin!
Are you becoming financially fit in the New Year? Do you have any tips for me?

Today Do Something For You

Today Do Something For You from The Gossip Darling

Hello darlings!!

Are you fully recovered from Christmas? Well I'm not! Lol. It's one of my favorite holidays and I am so blessed to have spent it with the people I love most in this world. I'm such a lucky girl!

As I'm sure you all know by now due to my extensive sharing, over the last few months, I've been feeling overwhelmed and unhappy. I decided to take a few weeks off to spend some time with my family for the holidays as well as get some good alone time with myself. Its only been a week but oh my...what a difference I'm feeling already. Here's what I've been doing...

Working out. I have a love/hate relationship with jogging but I know it's an absolute must because my ass loves to eat and drink. It feels so good making sure I get my 10,000 steps in daily. I feel like I'm being healthier and doing something good for myself. Plus it's an excellent way to relieve stress. I'm feeling so good!

Sleeping. I'm finally catching up and spending some quality time with my bed! Normally I only get to sleep about 5 hours per night. I know my sleep cycle is kinda weird but I'm sleeping until 10am, taking an afternoon nap, and get to work on my blogging until 2am! (Like I'm doing now) I'm loving every second of it. Not sure why this is but I feel most inspired at night! I am so happy that I get to take advantage of my free time and despite its craziness, I'm working with my own schedule!

Blogging. I absolutely love blogging and it's my way of being more social and even getting some good therapy time in. I love sharing my life stories with readers, what I'm going through, new things I'm trying, and just other forms of randomness. I totally don't blog as much as I would like to but here's to me making a change! Both my blogs are getting some love and it makes me so happy!

Beauty. Here's to me getting my hair done at Dry Bar and getting a fresh manicure. When I look messy, I feel messy. When my nails and hair are on point, I'm more confident and I feel unstoppable. Yes, I'm even walking a little straighter!

Life. I'm smelling the fresh air. I'm relaxing and removing the stress from my life. I'm catching up with friends and doing things that I love (like shopping!) I'm creating a balance and it's making me so happy.

Like my friend Jules told me... Today do something for you. And guess what? I'm doing it!

Here's my one piece of advice...sometimes you have to make one change in your life and everything else will fall into place. What change do you need to make?

My Worst Beauty Mistakes

8:00:00 AM

My Worst Beauty Mistakes from The Gossip Darling
via

I'm truly obsessed with everything beauty related and I love everything makeup and skincare has to offer. But there are moments that I'm not proud of and I may skip a few steps...or just skip them completely. I am the first to say...I'm skipping these steps purely out of laziness! (Ugh, it's true) I get home from work or the gym and I'm so exhausted that I just say...screw it.

As we get closer to ringing in 2016, let's see if I can make some improvements in the New Year...

Removing all of my makeup. I wear loads of makeup on a daily basis. Two layers of foundation, powder on top of the layers of foundation, eye shadow, liners, mascara, blush, concealer, bronzer, highlighter, lipstick, and probably a million other things. I 100% never remove all of my makeup. It's terrible and I know it's contributing to my breakouts but I really get so tired at the end of the day. Most days I fall asleep way past midnight that I just grab a baby wipe or makeup removing wipes and call it a day. I wake up the following morning with raccoon eyes and leftover residue on my pillow case. Totally bad I know but I'm just sharing my truth...

Cleansing. As I shared in my first point, I use makeup wipes to clean my face at the end of the night when I should be using my cleansers. I have so many cleansing products in my bathroom and I don't use them! From Josie Maran to Philosophy, to Estée Lauder, to Bobbi Brown. Can someone please come to my apartment and make me use one of them?! It's better for my skin and will probably help with my acne!

ExfoliatingGirl, if I'm not cleansing, do you think I'm exfoliating? I know this is a must and I should be doing it twice a week. I even have an awesome Clarisonic that I spent loads of money on! Ugh, my poor skin. Why can't I treat you better?

Facial Mask. Why am I not really cleaning out my skin and putting moisture back in? I guess after my first three points, I shouldn't wonder why my skin and I have bad blood, huh?

Hair Treatment. I do so much to my hair. I have loads of grays so I have to dye it every 6 to 8 weeks. I also blow dry, straighten, and curl it twice a week. Yes, I know...so much to maintain! Since I do so much to my hair, it tends to get super dry! Back in the day, I use to apply a hair mask and sit around for an hair with a hair heating hat on my head. It was my Saturday ritual. It was so good for my hair and I saw the benefits. I have no idea what happened but I stopped doing it. Maybe a 2016 New Year's Resolution?

Hair Heat Protectant. So bad but twice a week I wash, blow dry, straighten, and then curl my hair. That's a whole lot of heat! I should be protecting my hair but of course...I don't. I really need to start using Drybar's Hot Toddy Heat & UV Protectant that I picked up and start being nicer to my hair!

Water. I totally don't drink enough water. H2O is soooo good for you and is like the world's best natural medicine. Yet I will drink coffee, tea, diet coke, ice tea, and my fave...wine over water. I should be drinking a minimum of eight glasses a day, especially since I work out. I just can't do it! Maybe I should try adding lemon or something else to my water in order to make it more inviting.

Sunscreen. It's super super super important to protect your skin from the sun. The sun can be brutal and cause your skin sun damage, spots, wrinkles, or cancer. I should be applying sunscreen to my skin before I apply my makeup and I should be doing this all year round. I have sunscreen but between applying primer and so many makeup products to my face, I tend to skip this step. I do use foundation with sunscreen, but I always wonder if that's enough. If you know the answer, please let me know!

Flossing. Ugh. All the dentist out there should be yelling at me. Flossing. So simple and yet so hard for me. I just brush and go! My poor gums. I promise you teeth and gums, I will try to love you more!

What beauty mistakes are you making? Please don't tell me I'm alone...

(Should I mention that sometimes I sleep when I'm still wearing my contact lens...)

My 2016 Goals

Hustle is my middle name || The Gossip Darling

Happy Sunday loves!! Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far. I am officially on vacation so I am free as a bird until the New Year. I am going to be spending my days catching up on blogging and I can't wait!

So I think it's always important to have goals and challenge yourself. You need to strive for something. As you know, I have a wedding blog as well and after many years focusing on weddings, I decided to expand into the lifestyle world. I am so happy I did! As much as I still love weddings, I have met some really awesome people in different areas of the blogging world and different readers. I am loving every minute of it.

When I started this new blog, I really thought long and hard about my goals and what I wanted to accomplish. With my wedding blog, I was so hard on myself about stats and numbers. Stats regarding daily readers, social media, how many posts I was publishing a week (3x per day), and blah blah blah. Admittedly, it took the fun out of blogging. With a full-time and part-time job on the side, blogging was supposed to be my release and a way to express myself and instead it became a chore. I vowed to not make the same mistakes with this blog. I wanted it to be more personal. No pressure. Just me being me and like I'm chatting with my girlfriends. (Check out my post here about what I won't be doing with this blog.)

In the spirit of sharing my personal journey and being my authentic self, my 2016 goals are not focused on stats, monetary gains, or how many people I am collaborating with. (Not 100% saying I won't be doing any of these things but it won't be my focus. Hey, I'm not perfect!) It's more about me growing as a person and blogger. Here are my 2016 goals...

  • Even though I won't beat myself up about this and as I said, I am not worried about stats but I do want to post more. My goal is to publish new content 3x per week. Not because I am striving to be the best blogger in the World (I wish!), it's because I truly love blogging and due to outside factors, sometimes I can't blog as much as I want to. This is my way of journaling and I feel good about sitting down in front of my computer and writing. But most days when I get home, I am so exhausted that I just plop of the sofa and pass out. I'm trying to take my good friend Jules Bennett's advice and I'm going to do one thing a day for myself. One thing that I really enjoy. So the one thing a day I want to do for myself is blogging!
  • I would like to make a difference in one person's life. I know this is a hard goal but I am going for it. I read loads of blogs myself and many bloggers have made a difference in my life. It helps reading the journey of others whether they are trying to become debt-free, losing weight, mental health, nutrition, or even trying a new product. I feel like I know these bloggers and I trust them to steer me in the right direction. I am trying to learn from their mistakes, take their advice, and hopefully get the end result that I am looking for. So I hope you all learn from my blogging mistakes, beauty errors, my path of becoming debt-free, and my desires to become more healthy and balanced. I hope you can relate to my journey and join me.
  • I want to step outside of my comfort zone. I want to do so much more with this little blog of mine but sometimes I want to be so "perfect" that I end up not doing something. I want to do beauty tutorials. Should I not film them because I am afraid of what I'll look like on camera? Or should I not do them because I am worried about the wrong lighting or not having an awesome video like these major bloggers. My fears shouldn't stop me. I should do it no matter what and guess what? If it doesn't come out exactly right, I'll learn from it and do better next time.
  • Growth. I hope to grow as a person in 2016 as well as a blogger. I hope I learn from the lessons I am going to experience. I hope I handle rejection better. I hope I don't take every small thing to heart. I hope I come back stronger than when I entered. I hope I am happier. I can guarantee one thing....I will be trying my absolute best in 2016. The best is all you can ask for.
What are your goals for 2016?

Dealing with Difficult People

10:56:00 AM

It's no secret that I've been struggling lately getting through my day to day. It's due to a new situation in my life and even though I can pin point the source of this anxiety...it doesn't change the situation. Today's post is not one offering any advice...(sorry!), I'm actually asking for your help. I'm sure you all are a lot better at coping with difficult personalities than I am. I'm more of the yeller and complainer. Unfortunately, despite all of my venting sessions, my situation has remained unchanged. So the purpose of today's post is....How do you deal with difficult people? What skills do you use when all you want to do is walk away and no longer deal with them?

I'm someone who definitely believes in karma. I don't have to "ruin" this person's life. When you have a bad personality, trust me, people will take notice. But until people take notice, what do you do?

Here are some of the things I'm upset about...

1. Abuse. I feel like I'm being mentally abused. I'm a total Type A personality and I give 100% of myself and I don't want anything to get messed up or be left behind. But being a Type A to different people isn't always an equal situation. Meaning....you can give 100% of yourself to the most appreciative person in the world and the person will be so grateful to have you in their life and you'll continue to feel good about yourself. Or...you can give 100% of yourself to someone who still doesn't think 100% is good enough and they'll just take take take. There's no balanced relationship. No feeling good after doing something good for someone else. You just end up feeling unappreciated, mentally exhausted, and most times...disrespected. This is how I feel. For the past 3 months, I think everything I do isn't good enough, people are taking advantage of me, and I can never be fulfilled. Yea, this really isn't a good feeling to have. I hope no one else feels this way, but I know I'm not alone. How do you change this attitude around? How do you begin to realize that the situation isn't normal and you're not the problem...they are? How to you take control over your bad attitude?

2. Guilt. For some crazy reason, I always feel guilty and bad for being "not good enough". I know it sounds nutty because as I've said, the situation isn't "normal" but for some odd reason, I always feel guilty. How can I improve? How can I make his better? I also feel guilty for continuously venting to my friends. I love being a happy person. I don't want to be the person my friends are like. "crap, she's coming over to spill her heart out again..."

3. Paranoia. I'm just going to put this out there. I'm paranoid. Maybe I've been venting too much or maybe I'm scared that people are going to see how unhappy I am and it's going to cause more problems for me in the future. I don't know but this cycle of paranoia and guilt is getting pretty old. I tend to overthink everything and I'm definitely feeling "on edge". I feel like the little hairs on the back of my neck are always up. It's not a good feeling and most times it's truly exhausting. I always say that it's so much more hard work being miserable than it is being happy. But I'm still concerned....when does venting become too much? (PS- some of the crap I've had to deal with is wild...I can start a blog just on my real life stores!) When do you tell yourself, enough is enough?

4. Misery. I hate being miserable. I truly do. I hate complaining day in and day out. How do I change this? Once you have this bad attitude and you're depressed, how do you change it around? How to you become happy again?

This is what I know as of right now, I think in the New Year, I need more balance. I'm focusing less on work and more on me. I need to be a little more selfish when it comes to self-preservation. There's only one issue...how do I make this happen?

Product Review: Bobbi Brown Instant Long-Wear Makeup Remover

Product Review: Bobbi Brown Instant Long-Wear Makeup Remover

Happy Monday loves!! Hope you all had an amazing weekend! I finally had some R&R. I needed it! I also spend my Sunday doing beauty things! Haircut, blow dry, teeth whitening, and waxing. Fun right? Super glam! Lol.

So my Mom and I went shopping last week on Black Friday and we stopped by the Bobbi Brown counter. I love Bobbi Brown products. I've been struggling lately with removing all of my eye makeup at night. I wear LOADS of eye makeup and I especially love black eyeliner. There's only one problem with my love of eyeliner...it leaves stains on my pillow cases if I don't remove it all at the end of the night. I swear I really try to but my makeup removing wipes aren't cutting it. Since it was Black Friday and major deals were going on, I decided to give this product a try. And I am super happy I did!!

Bobbi Brown Instant Long-Wear Makeup Remover is a lifesaver. Wanna know more about it? Good because I'm happy to share. According to Bobbi, "An oil-based makeup remover is the best way to gently yet thoroughly remove long-wearing makeup." And I totally agree. I am always nervous about how I treat my eyes because that area of your face is super sensitive and I want to make sure I don't do any damage to the thin layer of skin. I make sure to treat it kindly!

So far this product has been amazing to me. Here's how I use it...

* Please make sure to shake the bottle well! Since it's a dual formula and oil based, it's important to give the bottle a good shake before you use.

* I use a cotton ball for application. A little bit goes a long way. This product is for your entire face but I use it mainly for eye makeup removal. I just put a bit on a cotton ball, do a few wipes over the eyes and I'm done! This is also good for people who wear contacts like me. I just take my time and make sure to not get anything in my eyes. Sometimes if my eyes look like a raccoon, I also use a q-tip to really get under my eyes.

* After I wipe the cotton ball over my eyes and make sure I remove all eyeliner and mascara, I rinse with warm water. Even though I don't have an issue with the oil, I like to be sure that I don't clog my pores.

* I have combination skin and have acne issues and so far this product hasn't had any negative effects on my skin.

* I've read some reviews and I know people have had issues with the cap. Personally I haven't and I love the cap and bottle. Can the cap sometimes be tricky to take off? Yes, but I like it because I don't want the product falling out all over my sink! It won't be fun!

My final thoughts? I've already purchased a second bottle so I can leave it at my parents' house. I am going to be using this product for a long time. It's the best I've found so far!

Have you tried it? What are your favorite makeup removal products?

Have a great week!

Struggling

10:54:00 AM

Hi loves!

Happy Sunday and hope everyone's having a great weekend!

So I wasn't 100% sure whether I should write this post or not. But I reminded myself that my blog is about sharing my journey and moments with my readers. I should share how I'm feeling at the moment. I've probably shared these tips before but I'm going to remind myself and share them again. Hey, I may keep repeating myself until it actually happens.

Life has been insane lately. And I admit, its been a struggle. I'm desperately trying to keep up with all the demands but I'm...failing. I'm exhausted. I'm stressed. And quite honestly....I'm over this frantic lifestyle. I wrote a post a few weeks ago about feeling overwhelmed. I'm trying to stay focus and do things for myself but it's hard.

Here's what I keep reminding myself...

1. Don't beat myself up. I'm trying to accept what I'm feeling and not berate myself for "failing" or not doing things a certain way. I'm trying my best and that's all that matters. I can't continue to "beat myself up" for feeling this way.

2. Not everyone's going to like me. I'm setting my boundaries and some people may not like it but in some cases, you have to be selfish and save yourself. It's your life and you only have one to live. People will try to push back but you gotta create the life you want.

3. Be realistic. Sometimes I can live in fantasy land. Meaning I don't speak up enough because I think I can handle everything. It's ok to not do it all! In the blogging world especially, you see bloggers with 5 kids, huge house, and super successful business. Dude, it's impossible to do it all my yourself. Guarantee you that they have a few people helping them in the background. You can't do it ALL and that's ok. It really is.

4. Do something nice for yourself. You have to treat yourself. I tend to feel guilty about spending money I don't have it doing something nice for myself. Pampering yourself is mandatory. It doesn't have to be anything fancy or expensive. Shoot, you don't even have to spend money. For example, this past week has been challenging. So instead of going to the gym, I decided to take "me" time. Right after work, I went home and had a glass of wine, made a bowl of pasta, my cat Lexi on the sofa with me and watch a Mary Higgins Clark movie. It was the perfect night and exactly what I needed.

What do you do when you're struggling? What tips do you have for me?

Review: Hourglass' Retractable Double-Ended Complexion Brush

8:00:00 AM

Hello darlings!

Last year on my wedding blog, I shared my thoughts on one of my fave makeup brushes and it was such a huge hit. I thought I would update the post and share with you lovely darlings!! Over a year later, officially in my 30's, and really putting this brush to good use, I thought I would have a bit more to say.

As a total makeup snob, I am always trying new products. I was introduced to Hourglass products during one of my many Sephora visits. I walked in because I am looking for some new contouring products and my salesperson Josh totally hooked me up. He told me he had something to make my contouring life so much easier. Josh was totally on point and knew his stuff! He even wrote down step-by-step what I should do to get the best look.

Hourglass' Retractable Double-Ended Complexion Brush can be used for multiple purposes. I absolutely love when I can use just one product for applying multiple products. Makes a busy life so much easier. Hey, 5 minutes here and there really do help! You can use it to apply concealer, foundation, blush, powder, and for contouring. I love using the flat side for really getting under my eyes and making it so easy to apply my concealer. I also use it for outlining my contouring lines and applying highlighter. I use the brush side for blending out my contouring lines and applying blush. With its double-ended brush, it makes it super easy to throw it in your purse which makes it awesome for travel. I own a crazy amount of brushes but I use this brush all the time. Whether I'm on a flight, at the gym, or at the office, this brush goes everywhere with me!

To add the icing on the cake, this brush is also PETA- friendly and is made of Taklon. It's a great alternative for allergy sufferers, especially if you can't use brushes made from animal hair. I know the $68 price tag can be a bit of a turnoff but just think of it as saving because you are just buying one brush and not four! Once you finish using this amazing brush, just spray it quickly with alcohol and dust off on a paper towel and you're all set! It's good as new.

Have you purchased this brush, please let me know what you think!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Happy Thanksgiving darlings!!

Wishing all of my American readers an amazing holiday!! Thanksgiving is my all-time favorite holiday. There's no expectations except to eat and drink as much as you can, spend quality time with your loved ones and create amazing memories.

I left NYC on Monday and drove to my parents' house in Upstate New York. I LOVE spending my holidays here. There's absolutely no better feeling in world than to go home for the holidays. My Mom, Dad, brother, sister-in-law, and three nieces will be here for dinner. Oh and my cat Lexi will be celebrating with us as well. I am super grateful for my family, friends, job, co-workers, and my readers! We have all been through so many ups and downs together but we are all still standing together. I am beyond grateful for each and every one of them!

Tomorrow morning, my Mom and I will be starting our Black Friday shopping at 5am. Yes, we are the crazy women shopping first thing!! The mall is an hour away but who cares! It's totally one of my favorite things to do!

How will you be spending your holiday?

Must Read Blogs

Not only am I obsessed with writing for my blog, I'm also obsessed with reading other blogs. I truly love everything about blogging! I think it's because I've always wanted to be a journalist or maybe it's me getting my inner Carrie Bradshaw out...I don't know but I love it. I really feel like I'm chatting with my girlfriends and we have our own little community. I thought I would share some of my must read blogs with you all. I absolutely never miss a post from these ladies. They are inspiring, my blogging mentors, and you'll learn a lot from them about fashion, beauty, home decor, blogging, life, and all things glam!

Here we go...

Aubrey Kinch: Not only is Aubrey a blogger but she's also a designer. She creates the most awesome blog designs and her work is eye candy in itself. She truly has a good eye for all things fab. She's honest, her choices aren't crazy pricey so most of us can afford it, and you feel like you're her friend because she shares glimpses of her real life with us. She's a true down to Earth girl and I love it.

Pink Peonies: Rach Parcell is super glam and her style is always on point. She is a truly talented stylist! (I also really want her house!!) She shares amazing fashion and beauty tips as well as provides us with party ideas and home decor inspiration. Her blog is truly luxe!

Fun, Cheap, or Free: I'm absolutely terrible when it comes to budgeting and keeping money in my wallet! If I hold money for too long, it's going to burn a hole in my pocket! Jordan Page is super cool and shows us why it's so important to save, budget, and finance savvy. She's soon to be a mom of 5 so she knows a thing or two about juggling multiple gigs, importance of family life, and how money can completely add stress to anyone's life. She has awesome tips so you can save a buck or two. (I've personally saved thousands...)

Southern Curls and Pearls: if I had to only choose one blog to read, it would be this one. Caitlin is awesome and her blog is my all time favorite. She mixes super high end pieces like Chanel and Valentino with extremely affordable brands like Forever 21. She's really adorable and her blog really feels like you're having a chat with your girlfriends. I've purchased a few items after reading her blog and I've loved every single thing. She won't recommend something if it's not worth it!

Huda Beauty: not only am I a fan of Huda's blog, I'm also a fan of her Instagram page! She's full with amazing hair and makeup inspiration. Her blog provides beauty product reviews as well as beauty tutorials. She's super honest with her opinions and definitely won't recommend a crappy product. She has actually written posts about products you shouldn't buy! I really appreciate her honesty! Not only is she super beautiful and talented, she's a true powerhouse. (Can't wait to try to range of eyelashes available at Sephora!!)

A Girl, Obsessed: Mandy's blog has recently really taken off and I'm really happy for her. She blog provides a lot of inspiration in a lot of different areas. I especially love her blogging tips and tricks and her beauty product reviews. Since I recently launched this blog, I need all the blogging tips I can get! Mandy is smart, informative, and willing to spill the beans.

Overwhelmed

Hello darlings!

Hope you're all having a great weekend so far. Today's post may be filled with a bit of randomness but I promise to try to make some sense...I'm gonna try.

When I first started this new blog adventure, I wanted to post new content at least 3x per week and I had specific goals in mind. My real goal was actually to blog 5x per week. But with a crazy full-time job, sometimes it's easier said than done. In the last two months, my full-time job has become super super busy and as a result, my blog has been suffering. This makes me really upset because I feel like I am losing "me time" by not doing something I really enjoy...blogging. I've been feeling so overwhelmed with everything. From the moment I wake up to the moment I go to bed, all I keep thinking is... "I'm overwhelmed". After two months of non-stop feeling this way, I need to make a life change. Of course I need a job and of course I can't quit and blog all day but I can make some changes. (Plus I really do love my full-time job and I am extremely grateful for it!) I should be able to be successful at my job and still have time for a hobby.

via

Here's my plan of action:

  1. Setting Time Limits: I truly have no sense of time. I literally will work 16 hour days without batting an eye. But I also must say...I LOVE my job. I truly go to work everyday and love what I do. That being said, that doesn't mean you want to do what you love 24/7. Moving forward, I will try to only work from 9am to 6:30pm. (I'm talking about my full-time job) I have to force myself to turn the computer off and leave my desk even if all of my work isn't finished. I know myself and I know I hate still having things on my to do list but if I continue at the rate I'm currently working, I am just going to get completely burnt out and totally walk away. Whether things are still on the list or not, at 6:30pm, I am out the door and living my own life!
  2. Doing Something for Myself Once a Day: My sweet friend Jules gave me this advice. (Smart woman!) Since I feel like I have absolutely no "me time", I have to start doing one thing for myself daily and keep to it! I am going to be extra ambitious and I am going to try to do two things daily for myself: blogging and the gym. I always feel better when I work out and less guilty about eating my favorite sweet treats. Blogging also makes me feel like I am part of a community and I'm chatting up with my girlfriends. Starting today....I'm doing something for ME!
  3. Not Feeling Guilty: I'm the Queen of feeling guilty about something. I always say it's Catholic guilt but it does get pretty annoying. I feel guilty about not completing my work and me "getting in trouble" or disappointing someone, or doing something "fun" when I could be doing something "more productive". Girl, I am doing something for my mental sanity. In order to be more productive in your work life, you have to enter with a clear head, new inspiration, and new vision. This is important. Nobody wants to be doing the same crap day in and day out. Nope. I am going to be treating myself better and NOT feeling bad about it.
  4. Balance: This life is all about balance. At the moment, I absolutely have no balance at all. I go days or weeks without chatting up my friends because I literally leave the office and I am too exhausted to do anything besides pour a glass of wine. No more. I need to create life/work balance and feel better about myself as a friend, family member, employee, co-worker, and human! It's not normal to only go about your day in one gear.
  5. Breathing: I'm totally not in yoga or meditation because if I do make it to the gym, I just want to burn as many calories as possible. My nutritionist actually told me about a free app you can download and I'm shocked to say it's amazing. She recommended that I meditate at least 5 minutes per day and I can do it anywhere. Strangely enough, my place of meditation is my subway ride to work. I usually read a book or read the news from my phone but now as soon as I get on, I click on my Calm app and I spend 5 minutes finding some zen. It's super important and I never expected it to make me feel so much better!
Do you feel overwhelmed by work, family, or life? How do you create balance?

Current Wish List

So I my love of designer goods will never waiver. Too made my bank account is a little short and doesn't appreciate my love of designer clothing, accessories, jewelry, and everything else under the sun. There's nothing like saving up for months (or years) for that handbag you've been drooling over for what seems like forever. When it comes to purchasing designer items, I tend to go with classic pieces that are timeless and don't really follow any trends. Good style never follows any trends. I created my "Designer Wish List" for all of you lovely readers. Please let me know what you think...

1. Chanel Quilted Bag: How can you not want this bag? It's the definition of elegance, class, and glamour. It's truly timeless and can be used for all occasions.

2. Louis Vuitton Keepall Monogram CanvasI've been obsessed with Louis Vuitton for many years. I'm lucky enough to have a few pieces. This is my next goal. This bag is a perfect travel carry-on or if you're packing light for a weekend!

3. Valentino: So I was kinda on the fence about this one because since these shoes were released like literally everyone has been seen wearing them. Like literally everyone. I don't care if they are a bit played out...I still think they are super chic and classy. I'm still digging them!

4. Celine: Oh Celine...how we love you! This bag is perfect and so "in" right now. You can truly carry some many things in this bad boy! Wallet, makeup, gym clothes, and water bottle. Check, check, check, and check. Best of all? You carry everything you need and still look super chic.

5. Rolex: I love big watches. I usually purchase men's watches because like to wear something big and chunky on my wrist. I'm also really hard on my watches and wear them everyday so I need something that won't break so easily! Rolex is another timeless and elegant choice.

6. David Yurman: I heart you Yurman! Again, I'm super lucky to own a few pieces and I wear them like every single day! They are classy, timeless and you can dress them up or down. I want this ring for my middle finger. I like big and bold. I really am obsessed with statement pieces and this is the perfect piece.

What items are on your wish list?

Why You Should Start Your Own Blog

8:00:00 AM

I've been debating with myself whether I should write this post or not. Since my job as a blogger is to share my thoughts and hopefully help my readers, I decided to just stop overthinking and just start writing. About two weeks ago, I was having a few drinks with co-workers and we started chatting about fashion bloggers and how influential they are. For example...I rarely read magazines anymore! I get all fashion, beauty, home decor, and life inspiration from reading blogs. So one person said that the blog industry is super saturated and it's stupid to start a brand new blog at this stage since it's going to be impossible to "make it". I didn't say anything at that moment because I really didn't know what to say. I admit, her comment really bothered me. Am I wasting my time? Can I spend hours and hours creating new content to only have my best friend reading? (Love you Karen!) Should I just call it a day and realize that the blogging industry doesn't have room for me?

After my 2nd glass of wine, I had to slap myself back to reality. Lies!! Lies!! All lies!! Of course there's room for new bloggers! Of course some of the most successful blogs in the future haven't even been created yet! That's like telling Adele, "don't even bother singing because Whitney already did her thing and you'll never be as good as her...". Or telling someone new, "nope, I don't want to be your friend because I already have some." Doesn't make sense right? Adele and Whitney are and were both extremely talented and you can't say one is better than the other. The "end result" is based on a listener's opinion. I really kept obsessing over her comments. This isn't my first blog and I still haven't "made it". Is blogging just a stupid hobby and I'll never make a living out of it? I took something from the conversation and decided to share my thoughts with you.

What I learned so far from my blogging journey...

1. Be Authentic: In order to be successful, I need to be true to myself and "real". I write my blog as if I were speaking to my friends with a glass of wine in my hand. It's important for me to stay true and honest with my readers. Don't "sell out" because something is popular, trendy, and I'm making a buck. It's like that fake friend. You're going to sense the shade and keep it moving. Ex/ I am an obsessive blog reader and I used to be obsessed with one fashion blogger. I read everything she wrote religiously. Her blog was like Vogue...very chic, upscale, and totally out of my price range. But it was eye candy to me. One day from reading about Valentino and Chanel, I see her writing a read her latest post while drinking my coffee and it's about her love of ...Crocs. Don't get me wrong, I like Crocs but you go from $2k Louboutins to $30 Crocs. Not saying that she's not allowed to like Crocs, but how to do write only about high designer items everyday and then do a total turnaround for just one post? I felt betrayed because I felt like she "sold out". I totally get having a pay bills but that's like seeing Victoria Beckham leaving her house with no makeup and sweatpants. You gotta stay true to your brand and be authentic...even in the face of $$$.

2. Be Brave: I'm always questioning myself on whether I should post something or not. Am I overthinking? Do I come off sounding like a know it all bitch? Then I thought to myself... if I "follow the rules", what's going to set me apart from the other bloggers? If I were having a girls dinner with my friends, would I hesitate to share the story? Chances are...no. I would totally share. I know that I'm not going to be everyone's cup of tea but I think it's important for me to push past my comfort zones and really think outside of the box. Don't overthink each and every post. Would I share this story with my bff? Will it maybe help someone else? Will I inspire, teach, or make at least one person laugh? If so, then I don't care. I'm going for it and hitting publish! (Sorry in advance for future oversharing). I know it's the new trend to write posts about crazy blogging success and making $25k a month from a blog. Sorry guys but I don't have any stories like that. I don't make any money from my blog (yet) but I can share all of my mistakes and some of the lessons I've learned along the way. Everyone laughs at the bloopers right?

3. Stay Humble: I don't care where you are in life, it's important to stay humble and not act like an a*s. People don't have to read your blog or be kind enough to follow you on social media. Stay humble, kind, and appreciative whether you're crazy successful or not. It's in very bad taste to start acting like the diva when your blog takes off. Trust me, I've seen the change in attitudes before and it isn't cool. Even if you're the most successful blogger in the world, you never know what's around the corner. Stay gracious and don't change.

Are you thinking of starting your own blog? If so, what concerns do you have?

3 Sites to Make Extra Cash

8:00:00 AM

via here
Who doesn't want to make an extra buck or two...or three! I'm a total girly girl and I love everything involving fashion and beauty. As a result, my closet is sometimes bursting at the seams. Living in a small New York City apartment, I really don't have room for much. If I want to follow the current trends and keep up with fashion, I have to get rid some of the things in my closet before I can purchase anything new. I usually try to buy new clothes with the profits I made from selling my old things. Here are 3 sites I've used recently...

The Real Real: I've used this site for about a year now. Admittedly, last year I found this site to be better and more useful. I still use it but they are getting pickier about the items they accept. If they don't accept one of your items, they do mail it back to you for a fee. Anyway! This site is for designer items only which can be a bummer. They are two options here: you can choose to have your clothes picked up with their "White Glove Service" which is available to those with 10 or more designer items to sell. You can make an appointment and a rep will come to your house and pick up your items. You don't have to go anywhere! So easy! Right on the spot she was able to tell me what items will be accepted. It was also my first time selling so I was given a $100 gift card for Saks! Yay! (I purchased this David Yurman ring...) After that my first time selling, for any additional items, I order a consignment kit from the website and after completing a packaging slip, I packed up all of my items in a box, and using the pre-paid postage, I shipped off my items at my local FedEx. Still very easy. From the selling price, I receive 60% commission. Payments are made on the 15th every month via check or direct deposit. Check out their list here of designers they accept.

ThredUp: I have loads and loads of clothes. Causal, professional, dressy, workout, and everything in between. Also, my clothes are very diverse in regards to designers. I have everything from Michael Kors to Forever 21. I actually have a lot from Forever 21. I've been looking for ages for a site where I can sell my old clothes. I know eBay is very popular and I've given it a try but honestly, I don't have time to take photos of all of my clothes then upload them and then add such detailed descriptions. Then sellers contact you and ask loads of questions for $5 jeans. I don't think it's worth the time. I discovered this site via Pinterest and I was a bit concerned. When I googled the company, the reviews were terrible! Like really bad. So I actually didn't do anything for a month. Then I said to myself, what am I going to do with all of this stuff? Just send it! Seriously, I sent my clothes off with absolutely no expectations. I sent clothes to them that I was not expecting to get back and if I got zero money from them, I would be fine with it. (They don't late clothes they don't accept!) Since I was willing to give the clothes away for free, I had nothing to lose. I went on the site, requested a sellers bag and then filled it up once it arrived and shipped it out. I earn about $40 for each bag I send. Each bag is usually about 15 pounds. Yes, I know I have a lot of things! I've sent 6 bags so far and have made about $350. Remember: send things you are willing to give away for free and expect nothing! PS- you can choose to have items not accept to get sent back to you for a $12 fee. Also, this isn't a quick way to make money. Between them receiving your bag, processing everything, and offering payout...you're looking at a month and a half.

Decluttr: I learned about this visit via Pinterest. You can sell back your CDs and DVDs. So I was a little hesitant because I've really build up my DVD collection over the past 10 years. Who hasn't? DVDs aren't cheap and I kinda didn't want to get rid of any of them. But then I had to have a "Come to Jesus" talk with myself. When was the last time I actually watched a real DVD and not Netflix? Ummmm...its been years! Between Netflix and Amazon Prime, I never watch DVDs. So why was I keeping them so they can collect dust and take up room I don't have? I don't know. So I finally gave in and setup my sellers account. Admittedly, you will not make loads of money from the site. I made $60 and I sent over 100 DVDs. But it was $60 just sitting in my closet and literally just taking up valuable space. I didn't send any CDs because I didn't have the original packaging. I just used to keep the cd and throw away the case. I purchased one of those large CD holder binder things and that's where I stores my collection. I also kept my CDs because I still haven't uploaded everything to iTunes. I takes forever! So if you're interested in making an extra dollar or two to pay for some groceries, give this site a try. How does it work? Create an account, tell them all DVDs or CDs you want to send, they give you the price they are willing to purchase them for, you accept, print the shipping label, put everything in a box, and say goodbye!

Are you interested in making extra cash?

Like a Boss

11:40:00 AM

Like A Boss Quote from the gossip darling blog

Happy Saturday loves. Hope you all having a wonderful weekend. My work weeks have been full of stress lately. The past month has really been brutal. Its caused me to really think about things and how I can change what's happening, and how I can take back control over my life.

Today I'm going to get really personal so hope you don't mind. My life is always a bit crazy. I have a full time job in Manhattan and I have a few part time gigs, including this little blog. I love staying busy. My life motto is "busy is always a good thing". Well now I'm starting to rethink that. The main reason why I'm always busy is because I'm a people pleaser. It's impossible for me to say no. I hate the idea of people being mad at me or saying negative things about me because I said... "no". I guess no one really likes for people to hate them or think negatively of them. (Well at least I don't think) I especially hate for people to think that I "can't" do something. But now that I'm 31, it's time to change things up. I need to say "no" more often and really preserve my time and sanity. I get so angry with myself because I always agree to things I really don't want to do. I end up doing something that I really want to do half fast so I can cross it off my list, being mad at myself for stretching myself thin, and sometimes I allow myself to simply be...abused. After some soul searching and honestly...some extremely stressful moments, here's what I've learned and what I need to work on...
  • Creating Balance: I have absolutely no life/work balance. I am always on my phone and always replying to emails. I don't know how to "turn off". (I'm ashamed to say that I sleep with my phone under my pillow) In NYC, time is money so I never want an email to just be sitting in my inbox and potentially losing out on a great opportunity. I'm trying to change this. It's super unhealthy and leads to burnout. I must must must work on turning off my phone and focusing on the moment. Not me listening to someone because my eyes are glued to my iPhone. Life is short and you have to enjoy it. When you die, your iPhone isn't coming with you...
  • I'm Only Human: I'm only one person. I can't be everything to everyone at all moments of the day. Since I'm a people pleaser, when it comes to work, I always tell people "oh can do it!" Again, it leads to burnout, creates an imbalance between your personal life and work life, and isn't good for your health in the long run. When I wake up and see over 234 emails I've gotten overnight, my stress level hits the roof and I start banging away. No no no. I have to delegate tasks. I have to learn how to say no. I have to learn how to set boundaries. I have to learn that it's totally ok and necessary to work a normal work day and take days off! After time away, I'll feel more inspired and I'll have more energy for things that need to get done. I'm only human...
  • If It's So Easy, Do It Yourself: Again, I'm such a people pleaser. I get so angry with myself! People love passing off their work and saying "you can do this." No. Create the balance and set your priorities. Also, set boundaries!! Sometimes I'm working 12 hours a day and I see the people trying to pass work off to me going out for a two hour lunch. Yes, things can be easy and only take 5 minutes but those 5 minutes add up and leads to leaving the office at 10pm. Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself and say I'm sorry but I can't help you on this round. And if they say "it's easy"... you can say "then you can easily do it yourself"...Don't be mean and don't stop being a team player, but you know when it's enough. Know you're worth and set those boundaries.
Are you the boss of your own life? Or is your life the boss of you? How can you make changes?

My Professional Look

8:00:00 AM

My Professional Look

The weekend is almost here! Yay! Am I the only one super excited?!

I am a lover of all things fashionable. I'm truly obsessed with fashion. I love playing around with different looks and styles. I love how putting on a brand new outfit can change your whole attitude around. I can go from depressed to a smiling fool all because of a pretty accessory.

My biggest piece of fashion advice? Invest in a few great pieces. I am the Queen of mixing Forever 21 with Louis Vuitton. I totally believe in spending a good amount of money on wallets, handbags, and jewelry. For me personally, I rarely change my wallet or handbag so I need to spend money on good quality so my items can last me forever. I'm probably going to get into trouble for this...but I rarely change my handbag because I work in an office and 98% of the time, my handbag is stuffed in a drawer. I have my large Louis Vuitton wallet and it still looks brand new after 8 years! (I never use my wallet on a daily basis. I have a mini credit card holder that I use the majority of the time!)

I also think it's very important to "complete" every look. You don't want to wear the most beautiful formal gown in the world and have the most beautiful accessories and...you're walking around with a massively chipped manicure. Trust me, we all have days where a nail chips or you put on two different pairs of shoes (yes, this has happened when I'm in a hurry), but at least if you aim to look "complete", hopefully the universe will feel that energy and make it happen.

Here are some of my fave pieces when I need to look professional yet fashionable....

1. The Classic White Button-Down: I absolutely love a crisp white shirt. I developed the white shirt obsession from my Mother. She seriously has a closet full and when we shop together, she's like "oh I need a new white shirt. Isn't this one perfect?" Mothers are always right...you can dress this up or dress this down!

2. Black Leggings/Skinnys: I love love love leggings. I have over 20 pairs in different colors. I work out in them...lounge in them... and even go to work in them. Again, you can totally dress them up or down. They are so comfy and easy. I will never give up my leggings. I found an amazing pair at J. Crew and I ended up buying three of the same pair. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

3. The Black Loafers: According to my friends, I'm apparently known for my love of loafers. Lol. Kinda makes me self-conscious because people are noticing my habits! Loafers are always in style. I absolutely love my heels but since I spend most of my day running around, flats are way more practical for me. But I like to still look cute as I run around. I own these black flats and I can't gush over them enough.

4. Loose Hair: A nice high bun is always elegant but my hair is so long and heavy that if I wear it up for too long and often, I start to get headaches. Most of the time, I leave my hair down. It's just more comfortable for me. Instead of getting my "long hair headache", I can just focus on my day and get on with my work.

5. Elegant Large Black Bag: The black bag above is by Celine but not all of us have $3k to spend on a handbag. (I wish I did!) I have many large black totes. Since I live in NYC, I have to carry large bags in order to fit all of the things I need throughout the day. (I miss having a car where I can throw things in the backseat!) Not only do my handbags have to hold my wallet, makeup, and other fun gems..it also needs to hold my umbrella, water bottle, gym clothes, and other random items I like to carry about and probably have no use for. A large bag is a must for me. Instead of carrying multiple small or medium bags with me daily, please just give me one large one.

6. Red Manicure: I've always believed that anything red brings you good luck. Every New Year's, I always make sure I am wearing something red! I think it's elegant, timeless, and chic. A red manicure reminds me of the elegance of the 1920s. Just add black eyeliner and I'm in heaven. Me doing business with a fresh red manicure....I'm unstoppable.

What are your favorite items to make you look the most professional?

1. Gilmore Girls

It's about a small town mother and daughter who are close in age, and go through family, relationship, high school, and college drama, while keeping it light hearted and heavy on pop-culture references. Top 5 Breakfast Smoothies

8:00:00 AM

Hello darlings!!

Everyone knows that breakfast is the most important meal of the day—but who are we kidding ourselves, most of us don’t have time to squeeze in a hearty breakfast! NO BUENO!

The solution to an easy and healthy breakfast are smoothies! Not only do they contain all the essential nutrients the body need, they are super easy and quick to create.

Here are my top 5 breakfast smoothies:

The Berry Smoothie:

The easiest way to think of this smoothie is to use any fruit that ends in –BERRY. Blend strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries in a blender with almond milk. YUMMY!

Banana Nut Blast:

If you love peanut butter, this is the morning shake for you! In a blender filled with almond milk, add a ripe banana with a spoonful of peanut butter. Using peanut butter is a great way to add protein to your shakes without using chemical-filled protein powders.

The Hulk:

The reason why I call this shake the hulk is because one it’s green and two it has wonderful ingredients that make you strong! Blend coconut milk, mango, banana, spinach and a little bit of orange juice. Don’t be scared to try it! It looks weird but it taste amazing!

The Energizer:

Eating vegetables is a struggle, however not when you disguised them well. In a juicer, add celery, carrots, green apples and oranges for a blast of energy. I don’t like celery yet I can drink this shake with no problema!

PB&J:

Who said you are too old to have a PB&J for breakfast? Turn your favorite sandwich into a quick smoothie. With coconut milk add frozen raspberry and a spoonful of peanut butter. Vuala!

Let me know what is your favorite breakfast smoothie?
