Hello darlings!!

Hope you all had a great start to the week. I wasn't sure if I should share this story with you all but since I've been struggling soooo much, I've decided to let you in on what's going on.

Every year for Lent, I try to outdo myself and give up something I really love for the 40 day period. As a Catholic, it's important for me to make sacrifices for my religion and truly reflect, develop and grow a closer relationship to God. Over the years, I have given up ice cream, alcohol, caffeine, and now....all sweets. Just to share a fun fact about me....I am obsessed with sweets. 100% I'm the girl eating cake for breakfast and munching on something sugary throughout the day.

For those not familiar with Lent, it's a Christian observance recognized by many different Christian dominations and covers a period of about 6 weeks before Easter. During the period between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday, Christians focus on the basics: simple living, prayer, and fasting in order to get closer to God. You can read more about Lent here and here. For me, as part of my fast, I give up something I really really really love for the 40 days and it truly makes a huge difference in my life.

I'm determined to not cheat and really focus on my end goal! I can do this! I can do this! I can do this! I'm trying to increase my fruit intake because pineapples are sweet and will take the focus away from a cookie. Honestly, giving up wine was easy for me, but giving up sweets is a totally different ball game. I don't drink wine first thing in the morning and really only enjoy a glass after work. It's the opposite story with sweets! As I get ready for work and put my makeup on, I usually eat an Oreo or two! (Yes, I'm that bad) I'm also known to have a slice of cake before noon. I have about a month left to go and I'm determined to stay strong. Shouldn't my body have already detoxed? Why am I still having cravings? Ugh!

Lent is a time to repent, fast, refocus, and continue to build your relationship with God. Do you practice Lent? If so, what did you give up?

  2. Hi - new here. I'm a sweets girl too. Cakes, soft cookies, donuts are my weakness. So I feel your pain. One thing I found that helped me with cravings was to deprive myself of all things sweet (including fruit) for 2 weeks. Yes it seems like a long time, ok, yes it is a long time. And it totally is miserable that first week. But after the two weeks are up I then add fruit back. The fruit tastes so much sweeter than ever. And because of that my body is soooo happy to have something sweet that I don't crave the sugar from the "bad" sweets. Try it out, it may work for you too!
