Hello darlings!! I haven't done a post like this in awhile so I figured it was time for a proper catch up. Here's a little background for my new readers...
In 2012, I started a wedding blog. I had been blogging off and on since 2009 but my wedding blog was my first time blogging on a daily basis and taking it really seriously. You can read more about my journey here. Let me just tell you, blogging is a load of hard work! Being a wedding blogger, I was getting about 50 real wedding and engagement sessions per day! It's always great being popular but it was overwhelming at times. So I had to review real wedding, real engagement, styled shoot, and guest post submissions daily. Then I had to email everyone notifying them whether their submissions were accepted or not. Then I had to edit photos, write a story about the couple, write the actual post, schedule social media, and do it all again. This didn't include my own posts about the wedding industry! To make a long story story, sometimes I used to blog 3x per day for 7 days per week. It's not safe to say I hate weddings! Earlier this year, I sold my wedding blog to an amazing blogger and she had given the blog new life and it's super awesome. It's getting the love and attention it deserves after I couldn't be bothered after my burnout. So I thought to myself, "should I just quit blogging?" I quickly rejected the idea because I absolutely love blogging. I love connecting with readers and other bloggers. I also love just getting my thoughts and feelings out. It's like a modern way of keeping a journal. I wanted to continue blogging but I just didn't want the stress and overwhelming feelings. No more deadline!!
In August 2015, I started this little baby called The Gossip Darling and I am soooo happy I did!! After 4 years of blogging, I thought I knew everything there was to know about the blog world. Well turns out I didn't! Moving from the wedding niche to lifestyle/beauty is a totally different ballgame! (In a good way!) I'm connecting with totally different people and I'm not sure if it's based on my experience (and mistakes) from previous blogs, but thank goodness since day 1, I've had loads of readers. I'm so grateful because I was so fearful!! I have actually reached some of my 2016 goals already!! Woooohooo! Even though I have more readers, I have noticed things have changed over the past four years. Here are somethings I've noticed: Social media had definitely changed!! Back in the day, I was all about Twitter and Facebook. It was so easy for me to get followers as well. Seriously, I got like new 300 Twitter followers in a week and it was all done organically. Now it's such a struggle for me to get even one. Not sure if I should change my game plan but Twitter and Facebook have definitely changed. Actually Instagram and Pinterest have as well. It's so hard for me to gain followers. I get a lot of likes on Instagram but not as many followers. I think people just don't want to commit. Hahaha. Also, Instagram has become so commercial in my opinion. It's like everyone has professional photographers working for them! What happened to real photos?? Do I need to go back to school for photography?? PS- I still haven't joined SnapChat. I'm sorry but it's just too much for me. Do you really need to see that much of me? If yes, maybe I'll look into cutting back in other social media platforms and just go with Instagram and Snapchat. For some reason, Pinterest brings me absolutely no readers or new followers. It just doesn't like me even though I love it!! Google Plus is the only platform that really loves me. Very interesting.
Here are some things I want to improve on...
- Blog Design: I have no idea why I still haven't gotten it "right". For years now, I have been continuously changing my blog designs in search of "me". For my old wedding blog, I finally found a designer who captured the essence of me and what I wanted to convey to my wedding readers but I still haven't found this for my lifestyle/beauty blog. I want something simple so my posts can take center stage but I still want something pretty and inviting so people can head in. Right now I am using a blogger template from Pipdig which is great but I prefer something custom so it's one of a kind for me. I am going to wait about six more months before I rebrand and I would love Aubrey Kinch to take the lead on my design. Her style is beyond amazing, chic, and stylish and she's a lifestyle blogger herself so she knows what I need. Check out her work here.
- Improve Stats: So as I have said here, I am not trying to drive myself crazy with more readers and social media followers. I admit, it's a lot easier said than done because I put so much hard work into my blog so of course I want as many people as possible to read but I am trying to be organic about this post. Just let it be and people are come soon enough. I am not going to stalk every Twitter unfollower! Yes, I want to improve but not to the point of driving myself crazy. I've actually already hit some of my blog goals so I am pretty happy in most areas. Pinterest, Twitter and Facebook...come on! Work with me!
- Collaborations: I would love to team up with more brands and create some unique and inspiring content for my readers. I would also love to collab with some other bloggers! I am usually running around and busy but honestly...we all are. I need to stop making excuses and really reach out. Beauty expert...come on! Let's work together!
Thank you so much to all my readers! I appreciate you all and I am so grateful for each and every one of you! Please let me know if you would like to see more or less of something on TGD!
