NYX Shine Killer Primer Review
Amennnnn!! I just found another primer that I am super in love with! And better yet, it's a drugstore find! Just $13.99 baby at Ulta! It's NYX Shine Killer primer and it'd my new favorite. Wanna know more? Good because I want to share.
NYX has really become one of my favorite drugstore brands. They offer amazing quality for half the price of luxe brands. I walked into Ulta looking for a good primer to help control my shiny oily face. Since I have been getting better at taking care of my skin (washing my face, cleansing, toning, moisturizing, and using masks) my skin has become oily from dry. Overall, I prefer to have oily skin over dry skin because I'll age slower but it does have it's disadvantages...such as my makeup melting off of my face. Nothing has changed in regards to make makeup routine. I set all of my makeup with powder between each layer applied but it wasn't helping. Seriously, after 4 hours, my face looked like I just finished working out! Totally not cool! So my BFF Karen told me to try NYX primers because she's heard amazing reviews and they are easier on the wallet.
The saleslady at Ulta recommended that I try Angel Veil but they were all sold out so Shine Killer was the next best thing. It's clear in color and is a gel-like base. I apply it all over my face with freshly washed hands. It applies very well to the skin, is smooth, and feels lightweight on the skin. There's nothing I had more than applying a product that will make me feel weighed down or like I'm clogging my pores. My skin reacts very well to NYX products and I don't have to worry about breakouts.
Initially when I first tried this primer, Shine Killer reminded me of Hourglass Mineral Veil primer because of it's smooth texture and application. My skin felt amazing after I applied it and it doesn't make my skin feel tacky or greasy. Honestly, it didn't 100% help control the shine but it did a pretty good job. After a few hours, I still have to apply powder to my t-zone. Just a few dabs of my Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation powder and I am set to go. Even though it didn't do the job completely, it did the same amount of work as the higher end primer I've used.
So far I've tested in out with the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation, Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue, Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation, and Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation and its been great with all four.
What products are you using to fight the oily face look?
