Dream Weekend Outfit

Hello darling!! Happy Friday!! The weekend is finally almost here!! I've had such a busy and stressful week. All I want to do this weekend is relax and do nothing! Well maybe not nothing but I definitely want to relax and do things that I enjoy.

This is my ultimate dream weekend outfit. My style is all about comfort when the weekend is here. Why not be both comfortable and stylish? I love me a good pair of ripped boyfriend jeans, hoodie, comfy Uggs, and a veiled beanie! (I'm currently obsessed with veiled beanies) Why not pair this perfect weekend outfit with chic red lipstick and the ultimate dream handbag? Chanel everyone?

What's your weekend style?

Avon Makeup Setting Spray

6:30:00 AM

Happy Wednesday darlings!!!

Hope everyone is having a great week so far. As per usual, the week is flying by for me. I can also happily report that I survived Jonas! What a mess! Getting snowed in for a weekend wasn't too bad though.

I bought this amazing Avon Makeup Setting Spray about 3 weeks ago and I am soooo happy I did!! I am fairly new to the whole makeup setting spray scene but I'm so happy I tried. I first purchased Urban Decay's All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray and I loved it. My only hesitation was the price.... $30 a pop! So I was on the hunt for a cheaper alternative. Avon helped with this quest. Great quality, great value, great decision!

Avon Makeup Setting Spray is an amazing substitute for those on a budget! I set my makeup every morning using two products...this spray and Laura Mercier's Translucent Setting Powder. Between these two goodies, my makeup lasts all day and doesn't move between the hours of 7:20am and 8:30pm. (I have combo skin)

Avon Makeup Setting Spray is $10 a bottle (watch for major sales though!) and contains vitamins A, C, and E. You spray a few quirts about 10 inches away from your face as soon as you're done applying your makeup (eyes closed please) and you're good to go! It's lightweight, there's no overwhelming smell, won't smudge your makeup when you spray, and doesn't leave any residue on your face. It dried super quick. Literally, you spray and you won't feel a thing! It helps set your foundation and eye makeup so nothing budges. It's brilliant! It's super helpful and easy on the pocket!

Have you used this product before? How do you set your makeup?

Removing My Makeup with Avon

6:58:00 PM

Happy Sunday darlings!

For all of my lovely readers on the East Coast....what a storm! I haven't left my apartment since Friday afternoon. I must say that I'm enjoying it but wow! Tomorrow's commute to work isn't going to be a lot of fun!

I am so excited to say that I started working for Avon about 3 weeks ago and I truly can't get enough of their products. I am going to write a separate post about Avon and why I am working with them soon!

I am still obsessed about all makeup, beauty, cosmetics and brands, but I am excited to grow my special relationship with Avon. First up...removing my makeup with Avon. As you know, I wear loads of makeup on a daily basis and sometimes my poor clothes or pillow cases getting a beating because I don't take all of my makeup off at night. It can get pretty pricey replacing stuff! Avon's Makeup Remover Wipes and Eye Makeup Remover Lotion are a lifesaver!

For years I've been using Neutrogena's Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes and I love them but sometimes they leave a light residue on my skin. When I used these Avon wipes, my skin feels super clean and moisturized! They are quick, easy, and you can just throw them in your bag! (I usually need them after a gym session!)

Avon's Makeup Remover Wipes are filled with mineral complex (including zinc, magnesium, iron, and copper) and just one wipe is needed to remove all makeup from your face. You can even use these around your eye area! These wipes smell absolutely amazing but the fragrance isn't overpowering. (Nice and subtle) They totally aren't greasy and they are very gentle. My skin tends to break out easily so I need gentle products for my sensitive skin. These wipes are great for your skin and get the job done! They are also super affordable so they'll become an addiction that doesn't hurt the wallet.

I also bought the Moisture Effective Eye Makeup Remover Lotion as a backup because I wear eye shadow, liquid eyeliner, pencil eyeliner and waterproof mascara, so sometimes removing my eye makeup can be a bit of a challenge. (That's putting it mildly) This gentle formula isn't harsh and removes all traces of makeup. It doesn't have a scent and actually moisturizes and conditions your lashes! I apply it with my fingertips and remove with a damp cotton ball. Make sure to close your eyes! It does the trick. This product is also super affordable (I paid $1.99) and won't break the bank.

How do you remove your makeup? Have you tried these products?

MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Sculpting Duo Compact

MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Sculpting Duo Compact

Hi loves!!

Hope you all had a fabulous long weekend! I did so much relaxing that I'm bursting with energy right now! I think I'm going to start doing laps around my desk. Hahaha. I guess that's a good thing!

I'm obsessed with all things MAKE UP FOR EVER. I think it's such a great brand that offers amazing quality and color range. When I first purchased MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Sculpting Duo Compact, I was fairly new to the contouring game. I had purchased an amazing cream duo compact from Hourglass but for some reason they stopped selling it at my local Sephora. So I had to change it up and try something new. My awesome salesperson recommended this duo compact and I have no regrets! I'm always a little hesitant when it comes to contouring because you can easily leave your house looking like a clown if you don't know what you're doing. I wanted something super easy and perfect for a contouring beginner. Or to be honest, a contourer in a rush! (Not sure if contourer is a word but I'm going with it!)

This compact comes in two shades: Pink Beige and Golden. I purchased the Golden compact because it's recommended for us girls with medium deep to deep skin and it was just perfect. Here's a quick look at the colors....

Both the highlighter and bronzer are super natural looking and doesn't look overwhelming on my skin. The duo compact also makes it very easy for me in the morning, because I'm always in a rush when I get ready for work and I want something that I can grab, apply quickly, and throw in my bag for touch ups later. With this duo though, I rarely have to touch up. It stays on all day and doesn't fade throughout the day. (My day is usually 8am to 9pm)

MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Sculpting Duo Compact Review || The Gossip Darling

I apply both the highlighter and bronzer with Sephora's Pro Contour #79 Brush. Sometimes I use a fan brush to apply the highlighter, but only if I have the extra time in the morning which is super rare. So I apply the bronzer first, then wipe the residue off on a paper towel, then I apply the highlighter. I'm trying to shorten my beauty routine in the morning, so using the same brush is helpful!

I've been using this compact for 6 months now and here's how my compact looks...

Not bad right? A little goes a long way. I'm going to have this compact for while!

Have you tried this duo? What are you using for contouring?

Have a great week!

Thayers Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera

11:49:00 AM

Thayers Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera
Happy Saturday darlings!!!

I am so happy we have a 3 day weekend! Woooo hoooo! My goal for this long weekend is to organize all of my files and paperwork, take photos for upcoming blog posts, and write some new content! Wish me luck! What are you doing?

A few weeks ago, I purchased Thayers Alcohol-free Rose Petal Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera from Amazon because during a trip to my local organic grocery store, a lady recommended I use witch hazel as part of my beauty routine. She's been using witch hazel for over 30 years and highly recommends it. She also creates for own skincare products using witch hazel. (But that's for another post) Let's break this product down....

Witch hazel can be used for many purposes. It's a plant and the leaf, bark, and twigs are used to make medicine. You can apply witch hazel directly to the skin for itching, pain, and swelling/inflammation, insect bites, minor burns, and other skin irritations. When applied directly to the skin, witch hazel might help reduce swelling, help repair broken skin, and fight bacteria. (Thank you WebMD) With benefits like this, I'm totally in!

Here's my deal. My skin is always super sensitive and I have major acne at times. I am getting better about taking care of my body and skin which is helping to keep the acne under control. Thayers Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera has helped me in major ways. With having acne, my pimples have caused loads of swelling and irritation. Most times when you touch your face and haven't washed your hands, you are exposing your face to germs, dirt, and bacteria. I swear by this product, because it's super mild on my skin but gets the job done. With aloe vera which is another plant that helps with healing skin, reduce swelling/pain, and is 99% water, it's majorly good for your skin.

Product Review: Thayers Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera from The Gossip Darling

When I first thought of purchasing this item, I was a little concerns about the rose petal scent. I can sometimes be sensitive to smells and don't like anything with a string fragrance. I can truly say that this toner is....

  • Alcohol-free so it's not harsh and won't dry out your skin.
  • The rose fragrance is soft and won't overwhelm you. It's feminine, refreshing, and sweet.
  • Rose petals also helps reduce wrinkles, firms and tones your skin, and has loads of antioxidants. Read here for more info about its amazing benefits.
  • The aloe vera used in this formula is organic.
  • This toner not only cleanses your skin but it also helps moisturize it.
  • It's $9.48 for 12 oz. The cost isn't bad for a girl on a budget.
  • With over 4,500 reviews on Amazon, this product comes highly recommended. So I'm not alone with my love for this toner.

Have you tried this product? Can you let me know what you think?

Have a great weekend loves!!

8 Huge Blogging Mistakes I've Made

10:00:00 AM

So I've renamed this post about a million times already! The original titled was "5 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started a Blog". Then it changed it to "5 Huge Blogging Mistakes I've Made. Then I realized that I've made a whole lot more than 5 blogging mistakes. Lol. If my blog were a journal, you'll see many things crossed out! Then I figured...screw the title... I'm just going to write! So here we go. (Warning: SUPER long post ahead! Sorry!)

This is my second attempt of creating a successful blog. I use the word successful loosely because we all have different ideas of what success is. For me, it's finding something that I'm truly happy writing about and maybe having a few readers following and supporting my journey. I have been running my wedding blog for many years and I'm truly so happy with that blog and have no regrets. It has taught me soooo much and the lessons have been immeasurable. I always wonder when I discover a new "successful" blogger what stories they have to share and what their journey has been like. Like not knowing how to make a change in Wordpress and literally spending 2.5 hours googling and searching Pinterest for the answer. Or working on something and the images refuse to upload. Or a million other stressful things that have happened to me while blogging! The stressful events always occur in the middle of the night too! Despite how many blog posts you'll read, nothing is like going through it yourself. It's stressful, frustrating but an important lesson. No regrets coming from me! So many of my friends have asked me about blogging and whether they should start a blog. They ask me for advice and step by step instructions and it's sooo hard explaining to someone who is totally new to blogging. (We have allll been there!! And I'll be writing a separate post soon about how to start your own blog!) How do you explain the highs and lows of being a blogger? How do you not sound like a crazy person when you start sharing all of your stories? I promise I'll try to make sense with this post!

Here are 8 Huge Blogging Mistakes I've Made (so far!):

1. I was only focused on looking good! I think it's normal that you'll always want to look your best. When I first started blogging, I knew absolutely nothing about blogging. I just knew that I wanted to write and share all of my thoughts with others. (For better or for worse you get to read what I'm thinking! Ha!) I was getting all this information from a friend who knew all about blogging and she kept saying...you have to market yourself and be consistent and make sure you look the part and the list goes on. I was thinking to myself, "How can I market my blog when I haven't even written one blog post?" She kept talking design and how I have to look professional and this is how top bloggers do things. In all honesty, it all became way too much for me. I had never even written a blog post and didn't even know what SEO meant and yet I was dropping $800 on a brand new blog? Yes, I was that girl. It's like being the best dressed skier and yet I've never skied before in my life!! I was so focused on marketing, business cards, media kits, blog design, email must be mel@domainname.com, and everything must match that I totally got so stressed and spent so much time researching that I didn't even...write. It's important and very good to research, but not to the point of overwhelming yourself. It's like only being book smart and not having any street sense. Do your research and ask questions but don't spend 90% of your time doing it. Take most things that you read with a grain of salt. Every blogger is different and the amazing thing in this blogging world is that everyone can do things differently and still be successful.

2. Not commenting on other blog posts. I totally didn't realize how important it is to reach out to other bloggers, help to grow and build  the blogging community, and show some love! I read over 40 blog posts daily and I mostly read them while I'm taking the subway to and from work. Even though I was always reading, I never commented! It's not that I had nothing to say. Most of the time it was down to the fact that I didn't have an Internet connection while on the subway. Well to put it mildly...huge mistake! Blogging is all about building a community and the blogging community is very large and supportive. Don't be a one-way street. If you want people to support your blog by reading new content and commenting, then you must do the same. Definitely don't do anything in a spammy or fake way and just comment because you want traffic to your own blog. The key is to be authentic and build dialogue. Commenting is a way to start a conversation and for you to get to know others. How can we know you exist if we never hear from you? Speak up!

3. Wrong Blog Platform. This may be a controversial one but I'm just going to say it. Yup, I'm going there! I hate Wordpress and I much more prefer Blogger. In the future, I may regret writing this but at the moment it's 100% true. When I first started blogging I used Blogger as my platform. I was told by so many people that this was wrong and I had to switch to Wordpress. And I did. For me, this was a huge mistake! I just wanted to write and I had absolutely no idea what SEO was or widgets or editing photo sizes. I just thought I could upload a photo and insert into my post. When I switched to Wordpress, I ended up spending soooo much time and money just trying to figure things out! Widgets not working and not knowing how to fix it or widgets having a bug and causing the site to not run properly. The hosting going down and people not being able to access by blog for an entire weekend. The list goes on and on. Now granted, I had no idea what I was doing and all of this stuff was probably 100% my fault, but all I wanted to do was blog and not deal with all the tech side of things. It was enormously frustrating and honestly there were quite a number of times when I just wanted to quit. It wasn't because I didn't like blogging. It was just because I had a full-time and part-time job and I just wanted to do something as a hobby and have fun! Trying to figure out Wordpress wasn't fun to me. Personally, Blogger is super easy and user friendly. It's awesome for people who aren't tech savvy or are brand new bloggers. For my friends just starting out and want to blog for fun, I always recommend Blogger. I'm sure many people will disagree with me but there are just as many successful bloggers using blogger as their platform as there are bloggers using Wordpress. I'm sure there are many who will disagree with me but for me...Blogger all the way. So far it's been 5 months and we haven't had one disagreement!

4. Comparing Myself to Others. I'm the Queen of comparing myself to other bloggers. It's such an evil thing that I do to myself. I have to keep reminding myself that I can't compare my blog to blogs that have been around for years! With my wedding blog, I was trying to compete with huge bloggers in the industry who also blogged full-time. I was blogging 2 to 3x daily for 2 years. I was extremely overwhelmed and burnt out. I was coming home from work at 9pm and blogging until the early morning hours. I wasn't happy and it really didn't make a difference in my stats. If you're able to blog happily 1x per week, then do it. If you can blog more then great! Don't try to keep up with the Joneses!

5. No Plan. Not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing but I entered the blogging world blindly! Lol. I had no idea what I was doing or how hard it was going to be. Blogging is soooo much work. It's totally worth it but a crap load of work nonetheless. I was trying to do everything at once and I was getting nothing done. Planning is your best friend. Even though you may not have a niche or know where you want your blog to go, just write down your purpose for blogging and what you want to accomplish. Also write down your goals and your dreams! It helps to have a vision and it definitely helps to have it written somewhere.

6. No Passion. After blogging about weddings 2 to 3x daily for 2 years, of course I lost my passion. I should have totally paced myself better and planned things out more but I totally just hit the ground running. It's so important to be passionate about your blog and truly believe in what you're writing. The readers will be able to tell how authentic your words are. If you're not feeling it, it'll reflect in your writing and in turn, your readers won't be feeling it. Write from the heart and the readers will believe.

7. Listening to Others. Oh goodness. Maybe I should have written this as my first mistake. People love offering advice! It's great to support one another and encourage the other person but there's a difference when you're on the receiving end of bad advice. (At least I think it was bad advice) Do what's best for you and what's in your heart. What should I have done? I should have stuck with using Blogger as my blogging platform because it's what I was more comfortable with. Since I was brand new to blogging, I could have saved so much money and used the extra money on sponsoring other blogs and marketing my baby! I also shouldn't have listened to people about blogging multiple times per day! As a side note, I truly don't want to seem ungrateful for those trying to help me. I just feel like everyone can relate to the situation of receiving what you interpret as bad advice. I should have listened to my gut! When I was offered new advice everyday, my reply was...."thank you....I think".

8. Doing Everything Myself. Lastly, another huge blogging mistake I have made is trying to do every single thing myself. Dude, you totally have to outsource some things. Unless you are doing this full-time, I think it's so difficult to do everything on your own. For me, I totally outsourced blog design and maintenance, social media scheduling and SEO updates. Once I had someone join my team, it made life so much more easier. I then had time to focus on super important things like writing great and valuable content!

What blogging mistakes have you made?

PS: before you go....I was also told by loads of people that you had to choose a blog niche in order to be successful. One of my favorite bloggers is proving those people wrong. Helene in Between wrote Is It Okay to NOT Have a Niche Blog? and it's just way too perfect not to share. Please let me know what you think.

xoxo

Twelve Fun Facts About Me

6:30:00 AM

Twelve Fun Facts About me from The Gossip Darling
via

Hello darlings!

The first week of 2016 is almost over. Crazy! It's amazing how quickly time is passing by. Since this little blog of mine is new, you probably don't know much about me. Just wanted to share some fun facts about me. I promise I'm a hoot. :)
  1. I'm 5'9. When I was younger, I always wanted to be shorter...maybe 5'4 or 5'5. Now that I'm older, I love my height! Let's cheer for the tall girls!
  2. My curlyyyyy hair. I am very tough on my hair. It's extremely curly hair and I always straighten it. I apply a lot of heat to my hair as well. It's super important for me to do weekly moisturizing treatment so it can maintain its health. I used to spend an hour every Saturday doing a hair treatment but in recently months, I've been very lazy! This year I am going to get back into the habit.
  3. My fitness jam. I enjoy working out and back in the day, I used to workout 5 to 6 days per week. Since moving to NYC, my work schedule has been super crazy and it's hard for me to get to the gym. I have my lazy moments and complain the whole way there, but I'm trying to up my fitness game. 2016 is going to be the year of getting back into shape!
  4. Favorite thing to wear. I wish I could spend every moment of the day in leggings and flip flops. Best outfit ever. Who isn't happy in a pair of leggings?!
  5. Obsessed with all Apple products. iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Apple Watch, blah blah blah. Apple is my passion and I love playing around with my latest tech toy.
  6. I'm picky about sweets. I don't consider anything with fruit to be a dessert. So I always turn down apple pie. I'm a chocoholic all the way.
  7. Type A girl. I organize the lives of other people and I love staying organized in my own life. I get such anxiety if I feel like I don't have control of a situation. Messiness is considered a situation to me. lol.
  8. My domicile of choice. I actually prefer country life even though I've been in NYC for over 5 years. Don't get me wrong...I love the energy of NYC but sometimes it can be too much. If I had to absolutely make a permanent decision of my living location, country all the way!
  9. Anglophile. I love everything British and mostly watch BBC shows. Anything from The Graham Norton Show to Luther to Agatha Christie movies. I can't get enough.
  10. My security blanket. I never leave the house without wearing makeup. Never! You never know who you're going to see.
  11. My fur baby. I have a little girl named Lexington aka Lexi. She's an orange and white tabby and is the best thing ever. She was found in a box at 5 weeks old and was given to me by my Mom as a present. I've been her Momma ever since.
  12. Favorite thing to do. Laugh! I love people with a sense of humor and I really love to laugh. I'll do anything to get a laugh. I think I have the "younger child syndrome". Hahaha.
I love sharing things about myself and my life. Please ask me some questions! What do you wanna know? :)

4 Step Foundation Routine

8:00:00 AM

4 Step Foundation Routine by The Gossip Darling

Hello darlings!!

Foundation is one of the most important beauty steps for me. Even though I'm obsessed with all makeup, as long as my foundation looks good and I'm wearing black liner, I feel comfortable enough to leave my house. I want my skin to look flawless. I have serious acne issues but with the right foundation routine, no one has to see a blemish!

I have so many foundations by different brands, different types of formulas, and different levels of coverage. It's like choosing a pair of shoes before you leave your house. What look are you going for? Dramatic? Natural? Dewy?

I usually stick with the same Monday to Friday makeup routine. I tend to wear less makeup on the weekends and I wear nothing if I'm just staying home. Of course if I'm going out at night, I always go heavy!

Here's my work week foundation routine...

1. I start off with a primer. I have tried so many different primers and I promise to write complete product reviews for each one. I sometimes start off with the Bare Minerals Prime Time Original Foundation Primer or I use the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream in the color Ginger as my base. It depends on my mood but honest most days, I just go straight to Complexion Rescue. It's light and doesn't feel heavy on my skin at all. You can use this alone if you prefer. Since I like more of a full coverage foundation, I use this was my primer. I'm on my third tube and I am still super in love with it. I apply it with my fingers or I use the Bare Minerals Smoothing Face Brush

2. After I apply my base, I then apply Bare Minerals Bare Skin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation in Bare Beige. I've been using this foundation for about a year now on and off. It's definitely a keep and I'll always have a bottle in my makeup bag. There's just something about using Bare Mineral products that makes me feel like I am doing something good for my skin. Their products are amazing and never harsh. I am though ashamed to admit that I never count how many drops I use like I am supposed to. I just squirt a quarter size and I go. I apply this foundation using my beauty blender or the Bare Minerals Smoothing Face Brush. I have used the Bare Minerals bareSkin Perfecting Face Brush as recommended but I prefer the Smoothing Face Brush. It makes it easier for me to blend the product into my skin. Also, most times I'm in a rush and I don't want to use too many brushes. If I can purchase one brush and use for multiple purposes, then I'm in!

3. I have been using the Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick for many many years and for multiple purposes. It's a super easy product to use because it comes in a stick form and is solid oppose to a liquid. You can toss it in your bag like I do. I don't use it all over my face but instead I use it to cover my problem areas. I also use it to touch up my makeup if I am going out after work. It's easily blendable and doesn't feel heavy on my skin. A little bit goes a long way and this stick should last you awhile. My color is Natural Tan.

4. My last step is setting all of this lovely makeup! I use Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder. It's absolutely amazing, super light, and makes sure that my foundation never moves. Before I started using this product, I had a major problem with my foundation "melting off my face" towards the middle of the day. Since I started using this powder, my makeup doesn't budge. It has received so many amazing reviews and now I know why. I use this brush to seal under the eyes and my eye lids before I apply my eyeshadow and I use this brush to apply to the rest of my face.

And there we go! My super fast and easy 4 step makeup routine. What products are you using?

Happy New Year & My Resolutions

Happy New Year & My Resolutions from The Gossip Darling

Happy New Year darlings!!

I am praying 2016 is a safe, happy, and peaceful one for us all. January 1st is also my Mom's birthday so it's a double celebration for our family. I celebrated the New Year with my parents and friends. Just a night at home with laughter, good food, and a few glasses of wine. If was quiet and perfect!

Here are a few things I am going to work on in 2016...

  • Drink more water! I am terrible at drinking water and my skin is starting to show it. I need to be healthier and become more aware of what I put in my body.
  • Save more money. This is always on the list but I promise to really try this year.
  • Work out at least 4x per week.
  • Learn more about God and my religion. I think faith is so important and necessary in ones life. It's so easy to say you're too busy to attend church or read more about your faith. This year I am making becoming a better Christian a priority.
  • I want to further build and strengthen my relationships with co-workers, friends, and families, Oh and further build strong relationships with my blogging community. Build relationships
  • I am striving for success with this little blog and my new Avon business! (More info about Avon coming soon on the blog)
  • Sometimes I forget to sit back and reflect on all my blessings. It's good to have goals and look towards the future but you also have to remember to count your blessings.
  • The ultimate goal for 2016...Live my best life!
Much love and let's go for it 2016!!
