What's in My Sephora Shopping Cart

What's in My Sephora Shopping Cart

I love this time of year! My hair never looked better thanks to no heat and humidity. Hopefully my skin continues to mend thanks to no longer sweating just because I was breathing (gotta love NYC summers) and I can wear all these amazing and chic chunky sweaters! There's also another reason....the holiday season is coming and retailers are already offering some huge sales!

I received a notice that Sephora will be offering 20% off for VIB Rouge members starting on November 4th and you know I'm on that list! Here are some things currently in my shopping cart and I'm just waiting for this sale to start!

1. Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner: I've been using this liquid liner pen on my upper lids for years. I seriously just have it on repeat. I have cheated a few times when Sephora sells out of it but for the most part, I stay loyal to it.

2. Drybar Hot Toddy: I love the smell of this brand's products. My hair is also left smelling so amazing! I use this to protect my hair before I use my blow dryer, flat iron, or curling iron. I'm very hard on my hair so I try to treat it nicely with good products.

3. Drybar Mudslide Mask: this is my first time trying this one. I really want to start being nicer to my hair and I'm hoping doing a weekly mask will help with the dryness and damage. Since I do so much to it (loads of heat and color), I'm hoping this will decrease the damage.

4. Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow in Camel: I love this rich medium brown shade and I use it in my crease. It's perfect for everyday and I think the quality is amazing. Bobbi Brown was the first brand I was introduced to when I first started using makeup. Thanks mom for having good taste. It was my first and I always go back to it because I trust the quality and timelessness.

5. Bobbi Brown Eye Blending Brush: this brand makes the BEST brushes!! I have soooo many of them. Sometimes I try to go cheap and I just end up having to replace the brush after a few months which is exactly what happened here. My current brush is detaching with the handle and it's becoming a pain to apply my eyeshadow. Time for a replacement and I'm going for the best!

6. BareMinerals Cleansing Oil: I've been using this for about 3 months now and I am super in love with it. For me to continue to buy anything, you know I am in love with it. As soon as I walk into my apartment, I spread 4 pumps of this throughout my face and remove it with my Avon makeup wipes. It does such an amazing job at removing all my layers of makeup. Then I follow up with my Clarisonic and cleanser. By the time I am done, my face has not one speck of dirt.

7. BareMinerals True Oasis Oil-Free Replenishing Gel Cream: I am so in love with this moisturizer. It's super weird because it's actually a gel yet still leaves my skin feeling bouncy and moist. I need an oil-free moisturizer because it's easier on my acne prone skin. I can't gush over this gem enough.

8. Clinique- Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer: I can't believe I am actually saying this....but I have never tried anything by this brand before. I am a first timer when it comes to Clinique. My regular makeup girl told me to try this product. She said it's full coverage but will be friendly with my acne skin. She said Clinique is a wonderful brand for acne suffers. I hope she's right....

I have a million more things on my wish list but I need to control myself. I also want to wait until Black Friday to see what's offered.

Estée Lauder Nutritious Vitality 8 Radiant Energy Lotion Review

Estée Lauder Nutritious Vitality 8 Radiant Energy Lotion Review

Hi loves!!

I"m going to be honest....I'm getting really exhausted. Since I starting getting severe acne back in April, I now know soooo much about makeup and skincare. I swear the best makeup artists must have had bad acne! When you're trying to cover breakouts, you try sooo many different products and learn what's best to use to conceal the bumps and scarring! You are also super conscious of every single product you let touch your face. Even if it's free, I still won't put certain things on my face.

I bought Estée Lauder Nutritious Vitality 8 Radiant Energy Lotion about a month and a half ago because my doctor prescribed razorback which is a form of retinol to control my breakouts and it was causing severe dryness and I need to switch up my skincare routine to more gentle products. I'm no longer using any products with alcohol and try to buy only oil free. So during one of my Nordstrom visits, the sweet girl at the counter suggested that I use Estée Lauder Nutritious Vitality 8 Radiant Energy Lotion instead of my alcohol based toner to keep my skin clean, balanced, and hydrated. I use a lot of Estée Lauder products so I know the brand and know it works pretty well with me. There's a $56 price tag attached to this toner which I wasn't too happy about but I only have one face. So I bought it.

Nutritious Vitality 8 Radiant Energy Lotion isn't the traditional toner in my mind. It's more of a light serum and this a little thicker in consistency than a normal toner. It's also not a serum in my mind because it's too thick to apply by hand and you need to use a cotton pad for application. After using it for over a month, it really is gentle and moisturizing. It helps balance and remove any excess dirt and oil my cleanser didn't remove.

So my routine goes something like this...

1. BareMinerals Total Cleansing Oil with Avon makeup removing wipes to remove first layer of makeup.

2. This cleanser with my Clarisonic to double cleanse my face and remove all trace of makeup.

4. Apply thin layer of Tazorac

5. Allow one hour to dry

6.  Apply this moisturizer and eye cream

7. Allow 30 mins to dry and then bed!

Trust me, I know this routine is a lot and it's exhausting. I'm also taking doxycycline pills and using Aczone in the morning before makeup routine. I'm on a 3 month dosage and I'm really hoping that my skin is clear by the New Year.

Now back to the Nutritious Vitality 8 Radiant Energy Lotion...there's no fragrance, no oils, no greasy residue, nothing left feeling heavy on your skin. Once I apply, my skin does feel calmer and balanced. It also absorbs quickly into my skin.

My final thoughts? I love everything Estée Lauder but the $56 price tag will not make me this product again. My rose water toner did the same thing for me and it was $10 on Amazon. Yes, it's a "water" and not a "lotion" but my skin equally loved it and I felt like I got the same results. Again, this is a fab product but my wallet needs to look into a different direction.

My Beauty Restock List!

Beauty Restock list

Hi darlings!!

Hope you all had a fab weekend!! I went apple picking with my family and participated in the Breast Cancer Walk in my town. Let's also add a little shopping and brunch! It was the perfect weekend. What did you do?

As a total beauty lover, I am constantly trying new products and using products half way before I move on to something else. So for me to say, I need to restock...you know I love this stuff! Here are just a few things I can't live without and I must restock in my beauty bag asap!

1. Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick: I have been using this for years. I know I have told you guys about it over and over again. It's my go-to cover up for my acne scars or when I am in a rush and need to touch up my makeup at work before I have a nice dinner. It's super easy to travel with, super effective when you use it, and easily blendable because I don't always carry the right tools with me. It's full coverage but you can def lighten it up. I just can't gush enough about it. I have purchased this at least 4 times before and I just always keep it on hand.

2. Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer: I love love love this primer. It's like magic and feels like you're applying silk to your face. Seriously, I have never touched anything so silky! Even if you don't purchase, please walk into Sephora and just try this on your hand so you know what I am talking about. lol. I love Hourglass cosmetics but this is their standout product.

3. Aveda Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair: I tried this because my fave blogger recommended it. I use this in my hair everyday and it has never been so smooth or in control. I love how natural it is but it doesn't mess around. It's also great for my keratin treated hair. Bye bye frizz.

4. MAC 'Prep + Prime' Fix + Spray: This baby had to grow on me. I know everyone in the blogging world swears by it but I have to be convinced. Now that my skin is super dry from all of my acne meds, I love using this spray throughout the day. It not only sets my makeup so it doesn't move for the entire day, but it also helps keep my skin hydrated and looking radiant throughout the day. Who doesn't want glowing skin?

5. Estee Lauder Double Wear Powder Foundation: My holy grail powder. I seriously can't live without this powder and I use is every-single-damn-day. It lasts ALL day, my makeup doesn't move after I set it with this powder, it covers all of my acne scars, and my skin always looks super smooth. I apply the foundation with this brush and the combo is unbeatable. You would never even know that I have acne. I will be using this powder for many years to come.

6. Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow in 'Camel': Another Bobbi Brown fave. Her products are really classic and so natural looking. Of course even if you're wearing a dark color, for some reason Bobbi still makes all of her products look so natural. I used to use Bobbi Brown for everything a few years ago and now I'm starting to make my way back after a break. My skin just loves her.

7. Neutrogena Oil-Free Cleansing Wipes: I use at least 4 of these wipes per day...yes! Before I cleanse my face, I use these wipes to remove my makeup first. I try to remove my makeup the best that I can so I can use less of my expensive cleanser and when I am cleansing, it has a better chance of getting straight to my pores. These wipes are gentle and won't ruin my sensitive acne-prone skin.

What do you need to restock?

How to get FREE Estée Lauder Goodies!

Wanna know how to get free makeup from Estée Lauder? I just discovered how and now I want to share with you!!

So as a beauty lover, I use products from many different brands but Estée Lauder is one of my faves. At my nearby store, they sold out of a product I needed so I actually went directly to Estée Lauder website for the first time. I'm so happy I did! They give you points for like everything and points turn into free stuff! You earn  each purchase and if you post reviews of products you've posted. Even better, if you make Estée purchases at stores like Macy's, Nordstrom, Bergdorfs, Saks, and many more places, just submit your receipts online and they will give you credit! How amazing is that? I wish every brand did that!

How to get FREE Estée Lauder Goodies!

There are three tiers to this program: Be Excited, Be Enthusiastic, and Be Envied. Obviously the more you buy, the more perks you get. Just for signing up for the program, you get 15% off! Woooo hoooo! Then as you continue purchasing, you earn more benefits. So I'm at the highest tier which is "Be Envied". ( Of course I am! lol) So far I have received this FREE cleanser and this FREE serum. I also earned 20% off my next purchase. I'm actually saving it up for something good. I don't want to waste it on just one eyeliner! I'm saving it for a large order.

How to get FREE Estée Lauder Goodies!

Just imagine if every cosmetic brand had an awesome program like this? They'll also send you something for your birthday. I just thought I would share the knowledge! Estée is very good to offering free gifts with every purchase and providing samples. They definitely aren't cheap about giving away goodies. It's smart business practice if you ask me because that's how I've fallen in love with new stuff.

National Handbag Day!!

11:53:00 PM

Hello my Darlings!

Happy Monday! I just made it with this post! hahaha.

I am so happy to be off from work to be Upstate with my family. Today was definitely one of those days to spend inside, curled up with loved ones, a book, movies or even board games. (I may be the only person to still enjoy board games lol).

However I wanted to share that today is National Handbag Day! I was mulling over the idea of throwing in a few quirky but fun ‘holidays’ into my blog series, so I figured I’d start with an essential item to every female’s life---the handbag. This can also be gender neutral so if any of my gentleman followers care to comment please do!

Let’s start with how handbags came about. Originally from the time 1500 – 1900 A.D. handbags were referred to as ‘hanging bags and purses’. Essentially they were mainly used for every day practical uses for carrying around various items. Both men and women utilized this for money, small articles, and tools. Most of them time they were fashioned out of perishable materials, so little evidence is available of what they looked like other than old tapestries and paintings.
They came in a variety of shapes, designs, as well as hardware such as clasps, leather straps with drawstrings mostly hung around the hips like the fanny pack. All hail the invention of the Fanny Pack!  Pockets were not invented until later on during the 16th century which is when men’s bag faded out of the picture or painting as would be more appropriately stated.

Eventually during the 17th and 18th century women’s clothing was so voluminous they could hide their small clothes under their clothing! Imagine trying to walk with those skirts and petticoats?! Thus women during this time tied small bags to their hips generally carrying personal items.
Eventually with the Industrial Revolution women’s fashion gave way to iron and polished steel, along with papier-mâché stylized handbags. It also paved the way for the ‘modern traveler’ because people had to journey over water and rail.

Flash forward to our current status: high-end luxury brands for handbags. With the 20th century we saw momentous fashion movements that came with a flurry of excitement and faded just as quickly. With the Women’s movement it was a crucial factor in the development of the modern handbag. With women being employed, the need for a more practical handbag increased. Resulting in an entire catalog of specifically designed handbags for a plethora of uses. Evening, office work, daytime, evening, and even just visiting handbags. The list can go on!

However with today’s world it’s all about the branding of a certain name, particularly my two favorites Louis Vuitton & Chanel. <3

Whenever I think of Louis Vuitton or Chanel, a smile just appears on my face. I am sooo lucky to have a few LV pieces but I desperately want a Chanel. A black large quilt handbag! Sigh. Both brands are the definition of elegance, chic, class, and luxury. My all time fashion icon, Princess Diana, was a fan of the brand as well. They are just timeless. My dream is to have kids and to be able to pass down my bags from generation to generation. How amazing would that be? (I also want to pass down my fave eyeshadow blending brush I got when I was 17).

What's your dream handbag? Who are you gushing over?

Have a great week!!

Weekend Workout Playlist

10:06:00 PM

Happy weekend, it's Jordan again today!!

First off, if any of you readers live south, or have family & friends down south, my thoughts & prayers are with you! This hurricane is so devastating!!

So, I made a new playlist for the gym the other day & it is wonderful! There is nothing that makes me more excited to go run than having a new workout playlist. I love Spotify for having the option to make a specific playlist! I am a huge Spotify fan, buuuuut I will occasionally put on my Jesse McCartney (lol) Pandora playlist to listen to my old favorite high school hits! Anywayyyssss, I decided to share some of my favorite workout songs with you all, hope you enjoy! (:

1. F*** Apologies by JoJo (feat. Wiz Khalifa) - JoJo is baaaackkkkk & killing it! I remember listening to her songs in high school & was so excited when I saw this song come on Spotify! It is so empowering & makes you feel like women rule everything (cause we do).

2. Does Ya Mama Know? by 99 Percent - This song is so fun!! You gotta love a song with a good upbeat to workout to! Just imagine this guy is talking about you in this song while doing cardio & tell me this doesn't give you motivation to keep going! "Girl I like the way you bring that back, does ya mama know you dance like that?" **cue squat jumps**

3. Side to Side by Ariana Grande - If this song doesn't make you feel sexy & sassy then I don't know what will! When I am at the gym, the songs that give me motivation are the sexy songs that make you feel like you are the hottest thing in the room, cause you are, obviously!! But really, it is a song by Ariana & Nicki Minaj, enough said.

4. Faded by Cierra Ramirez - Another sexy & sassy song (ha, notice the trend). I had never heard of this artist before, so props to Spotify for this introduction! I love the beat to this song, you may break out in dance between your bicep curls.

5. Tell Me What You Want by T-Wayne - I guess I have to throw a few male artists in here.. This song has another great beat. I am not a huge rap fan, but this song is like more of a singing rap (if that makes sense). It is definitely a more chill rap song & I enjoy that!

6. My PYT  by Wale - I am sure most of you have probably heard this song by now! It blew up about a month ago, but I still love it! Another smooth rap song with a good beat. I have always been a Wale fan, but this is definitely my favorite of his! And what better to workout to than Wale calling you his PYT!!

7. Alright by Kent Jones - This song is soooo fun to sing!! He hits super high notes & it is the best to sing super loud in the car!! This song doesn't scream workout song to me, but I thought it was definitely up there enough to share with you all.

8. All Eyez by The Game (feat. Jeremih) - Okay, last one for today. I have always been a huge Jeremih fan ever since high school! Love this song in the gym, it is another one of those songs that makes me feel like I am about to be in an epic music video where some crazy hot guy is singing about me (I put a lot of thought into songs I choose, ha!).

Hope you all love part of my workout playlist! Hopefully there are some that you have never heard before!! Comment some of your favorite songs below, I am always looking to add some to my playlist!!

Happy 2nd Birthday Lexi!

2:20:00 PM

Hi darlings! Just wanted to wish my Lexi girl a Happy 2nd Birthday!! I can't believe Lexi is already two years old!! I adopted her at 5 weeks old and time has just flown by.

I adopted Lexington aka Lexi after she was abandoned in a box with her two sisters. We have no idea where they came from but it was late November and there was already snow on the ground. I couldn't believe someone would be cruel enough to leave little kittens out in the cold. They weighed less than a pound and were shivering.

So admittedly....I didn't want any more pets. I had recently lost my 5 year old Siamese to heart disease and was left absolutely heartbroken. I also lost my 15 year old Westie a few months before so it was a double heartbreak. I went from having two pets to nothing. I don't think I've ever cried that much in my life. I certainly never cried over a boyfriend like I did my pets! So everyone kept trying to convince me to get a pet...I kept repeating hell no! No no no! The Vet kept trying to convince me by saying I'm such a good pet owner and a homeless shelter pet could really use my love. I said no because I can't deal with the heartbreak. Then I discovered a box…

My Mom was with me when I first saw Lexi and of course it was instant love. My mom just melted. Lexi was playing with one of her sisters and they were going nuts. Hahaha. I've never had a kitten before since I adopted my Siamese at a year old so I had no idea what kittens were like. Similar to puppies? I just knew she was really small, smelled horrible, her fur was matted, and she was...homeless. Two other people grabbed her sisters instantly as I was holding Lexi. To my Mom's persistence, Lexi was now coming home with me. Looking back on it now, Lexi really saved me at the end of the day. I was so depressed and heartbroken and Lexi totally brought me back to life.

Here are some of Lexi's traits…

  • She's absolutely the sweetest pet I've ever had. She lovesssss to cuddle on your lap...for hours! Hahaha. When you're watching tv, when you're chatting on the phone, and even when you're sleeping! Lexi needs to touch some part of you and I think it's so cute.
  • She howls for treats at 6am every morning. I had no idea that cats loved their treats so much! My previous cat Madison never ate treats so I wasn't sure what the 6am wake up calls were all about. She stands by the pantry door and doesn't move until she gets what she wants. Even throughout the day when you walk past the pantry, she starts going nuts with the begging. Lol.
  • She loves hanging out on top of her kitty condo. This baby is 4 stories tall and of course she hangs out on the very top. It's in the family room and she just watches everyone like a hawk and waiting for an opportunity to do mischief.

  • She also loves hanging out by the glass doors in the back of the house or the bay window. There's a lot of sunshine in those areas which makes me nervous because I'm concerned about skin cancer. I have to talk to my Vet about this.
  • She's obsessed with one chipmunk. There's a chipmunk in my parents' backyard and this thing lovessss to bother my baby. They have staring contests and it drives Lexi nuts. I secretly think they are bffs.
  • My Mom is her favorite person. Lexi actually thinks that my mom is her mom. She follows her around everywhere and sometimes stops eating if my mom isn't around. When my mom gets home, Lexi starts doing laps around the house.

If you ever want to get a new pet, please adopt! Shelter animals make the most loving and loyal pets! Lexi now lives back upstate with my parents full time because after one visit she decided that she didn't want to be a city cat anymore. She's obsessed with my parents because they are home a lot more often than me. My mom stays at home full time so Lexi is surrounded by constant attention. Trust me, Lexi and I FaceTime during the week and I see her every weekend. Ginger tabby cats are known for being the sweetest and I couldn't agree more!

Happy Birthday baby girl.

xoxo

BareMinerals Blemish Remedy Collection

12:28:00 AM

Hiiii darlings!! I haven't blogged in forever! (Well almost two weeks) I have been really struggling with my skin lately and have been so busy with doctors and trying new products, that I didn't want to blog until I had a better grasp of what was going on. I am now using a combo of department store and doctor prescribed products. I am also taking an oral medicine called Acticlate for combating my acne. I am so upset that it has come down to me actually taking an oral medicine but I just can't deal with the breakouts anymore and simply spending so much money on things that don't work. I try to be "natural" the best that I can but my acne is beyond terrible and I needed to take a more drastic step. Please let me know if you want to know more about my doctor prescribed acne treatment routine.

Back in August, I stopped by my BareMinerals store and decided to try their Blemish Remedy line. (This was before I started using my doctor prescribed meds) This collection recently launched so I hadn't heard much about it but I have been using BareMinerals for years and I know it's super gentle with my skin. So I was totally on board to try this collection.

During my visit, I picked up the Blemish Remedy Primer, Foundation, Concealer, and brush. Before I start, I have to share that the brush is my absolute favorite purchase. Its quickly become one of my favorite brushes. So my daily routine was.... cleanse, tone, moisturize, prime, conceal, foundation, and set. (I'm sharing my skincare routine in a separate post...) Now let's chat about the primer!

Blemish Remedy Mattifying Prep Gel is an amazing primer in my opinion! It's not greasy, very lightweight, applies easily to the skin, dries quickly, and helps keep my skin matte throughout the day. It's a clear gel and has the mildest of medicated smell but it's nothing that you can't handle! I love this primer because it contains tea tree oil and aspen bark which are known to be an enemy of acne! It has an amazing blend of ingredients that will help treat your acne but it's not harsh and won't damage your skin. I have dry to combo skin so this primer was perfect for me because it didn't further dry out my skin which is what I'm afraid of when I use any acne fighting products. It's not as moisturizing as other BM primers but I do like this when I am fighting breakouts.

I picked up Blemish Remedy Concealer in medium and it also contains aspen bark and tea tree oil to help kill acne. According to their site, it claims to be a full coverage concealer but I actually think it's sheer with buildable to medium coverage. I would say IT Cosmetics Bye Bye concealer or Estee Lauder's Double Wear concealer to be full coverage...Blemish Remedy? Not so much. Not saying it's not a good concealer but I don't want to make a promise that I can't keep. I applied it directly to each breakout and then dabbed it with my clean ring finger. This concealer did last me throughout the day, it was creamy, easily blendable, and was easy to build up. Since I do have a lot of acne breakouts, I went through this concealer in about a month. (PS- the bottom part is a sharpener and you can keep the point sharp!)
I love love love the Blemish Remedy Foundation. (I wear #7 Clearly Nude) I heard some mixed reviews about it but it's actually an amazing foundation. Again, I did go through this product within a month because the foundation is sheer to full coverage I would say. I applied about 4 layers in order to make it full coverage. You can definitely smell the tea tree oil and aspen bark when you apply it but it's nothing too powerful. I wore this foundation throughout the whole hot month of August and I didn't have to reapply and I only had to pat down my t-zone. After many hours, it didn't separate on my skin or look cakey or blotchy. I can't use it anymore because the tea tree oil now burns my face since I am using such heavy acne meds. Even though the combo of the primer, concealer, and foundation didn't cure my horrible acne, it did keep it under control. FYI...towards the end of the container, I had to cut out the mesh center in order to get more product to come out. It ended up making more of a mess but I wasn't sure how to scrap the bottom of the barrel...

My hand down FAVE purchase was the Seamless Buffing Brush. I am obsessed with this brush and it was such a pleasant surprise. I must admit, sometimes I think it's bullshit when they tell you that you need to purchase the brush in order for the product to be effective. I was like blah blah blah. But truly, this brush is a must have. Let me tell you about it....

This brush is definitely the reason why you can build the Blemish Remedy Foundation to full coverage. The brush has short and round synthetic bristle and a thicker and shorter handle so you have absolute control over this brush. I dab it into the foundation and then I apply to make face in circular motions. The short bristles make it possible to create a full coverage look. I am now using it with my Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation powder and I swear it's the perfect partnership. It truly creates the most beautiful finish. My favorite thing about this brush? Since the bristles are synthetic, it doesn't spread bacteria as you as buffing product into your face. That's why I haven't been using my Beauty Blender to apply my foundation. I don't want to transfer bacteria all throughout my face. This brush is small but omg is it powerful!

My overall thoughts? Great for creating a matte look and will work for people with mild acne. I am a fan of it but unfortunately it wasn't strong enough for me. My acne was just too advanced. BUT this did help control my breakouts. I must say...well done BareMinerals!

Have you tried Bareminerals Blemish Remedy Collection?
